is not to...because you often don't know that they screwed up until after you give them the tip.

dude man forgot to hook up my washer drain hose. that was fun.

when my appliances were delivered I just had temporary steps built. they said "we can't use those steps." I said "ok thats fine just sit everything here in the yard and I will get it in."

they refused to do that and tried to shut the doors and leave. i told them that they were my appliances and they needed to do what I told them to do with them. they finally just sat them off the truck and I hired one of my hispanic friends to help me get them inside for $20.

so, their $20 tip went to a hispanic guy willing to work with me.

the hispanic guy probably didn't have store policies to contend with. i suspect they'd have rather kept their jobs than have your $20 tip. just sayin'.

I bought a new washer and dryer once, and they deliver/set it up for free. Anyway, they did just that and even ran both of them. They seemed to work fine.
Then a week later when I was doing laundry, the washer just stops. It would be hit or miss... sometimes it would start, and sometimes it wouldn't. Turns out that when they were unpacking it, they used a razor to get it out of the box, and sliced the power cord

Of course it got replaced for free, but goddamn, I'm pretty sure they knew what they did. And plugging a severed power cord into an outlet CAN'T be the safest thing in the world

^i think he's referring more to store policy in the "our insurance company requires us to have these policies, which include things about not using temporary stairs so we don't injure ourselves" sense.

i'm not knocking you, i'm just saying that they probably have a few guidelines they have to follow when they make that delivery. i agree that they should leave them if you've paid for 'em, at least.

oh my bust. I didn't fault them for not wanting to use the stairs, I was upset that they wouldn't let me take them inside myself.

I, for one, used to be an appliance delivery guy. There are several policies in place to prevent injury to the delivery guy and other liability things. One time a rich italian family (I got a real strong feeling that they were mafia) wanted us to take off our shoes to deliver some heavy-ass washer and dryer units. They didn't want to get their marble floors dirty. We told them we couldn't do that and either we wore our shoes or we left the units there.

In regards to the thread, delivery guys aren't allowed to take tips, but if you insist then we won't say anything

^ yeah, i was under the impression that appliance delivery wasn't necessarily a tipping situation.

sure, it never hurts to tip them if you want though.

if you don't tip them at least half of what you paid for the appliance then you are a greedy worthless scumbag. they are ENTITLED to that tip.

Appliances are only so cheap because the delivery cost isn't included in the purchase cost! If nobody tipped delivery men appliances would cost a lot more!

I tip delivery guys if it was "free delivery"

if I had to pay for the delivery, then no tip.

When I got my fridge delivered, the dudes showed up late, but they did good putting the new one in and taking the old one out.

Then, they said "You gotta call this number to confirm the delivery and there's a survey asking about us ad if you don't give every answer a five (out of 5) then it's bad for us". So I called up and gave them all fives.

That was the tip.
