Quote :
"Wrightsville Beach, N.C. — An East Carolina University student faces charges of indecent exposure following an incident in Wrightsville Beach in which a sheriff's deputy used a stun gun on him while he was naked. The Wilmington Star-News reported Tuesday that Matthew Martin Pick, 23, was also charged Saturday with resisting and obstructing a public officer.

A video posted on YouTube shows Pick lying facedown, naked in the middle of a local street as a large crowd watches the arrest take place.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon said a deputy told Pick to stop streaking and that the deputy used the Taser gun when he didn't stop, the Star News reported.

McMahon said the use of the stun gun was justified."

Two questions:
1. Is that the remnants of a drawn-on mustache on his face?
2. Where is the YouTube video?

^^^ that video raises another question... if he wasn't wearing said mustache when he was arrested, how did it get on there for the mug shot photo?

did his "buddies" in jail give it to him?
previous mug shot from another arrest?
just 'cause he can?

I'm getting fucking tired of seeing cops TASER people just for running.

The TASER should be viewed as something to use in order to keep from having to shoot someone, or beat his ass with a baton, or to keep him from being a serious threat to the safety of himself, the cop, or others.

a streaker running from the cops does not even come close to justifying TASER use.

oh, and good for the guy filming for not taking any shit from the cop. "I'm not hindering you from doing your job. Go do your job." Well played.

Obviously they are tasering people for running so they can stay fat.

If the cops are following protocol, I don't understand why they would have a problem with being filmed. Seems it would help clear their names in court.

I wouldn't want to be filmed while I was doing my job either. Come to think of it, it would probably be pretty damned infuriating to ask someone to stop and have them keep doing it.

it's public property, and it's perfectly legal and within one's rights to film, whether they like it or not.

hell the sheriff confirmed it and encouraged others to film such incidents.

Just another take on the old, "If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear," schtick. GG cameraman!

Totally agree on the overuse of Tasers.

^yeah, but t's public property. Unless they section the area off with police tape and a hindrance to an on going police investigation, then your shit out of luck.

Honestly, the police probably wanted the guy to stop video taping since everyone around him was on the line of inciting a riot (a bit far fetched for Wrightsville) in the eye's of the cop. Specially in a situation with tons of drunken 20 yr olds during a busy holiday, not hard to turn a crown into a mob. But for the good first bit of the vid, I applaud him for knowing his rights and funny to see the cop stumble on his own words.

Imagine what football would be like to watch if they just shot the guy running with a taser every time......the use of taser in this instance further proves the pussification of America.

I think the idea is to prevent injury of either the officer or the suspect resulting from a situation where the officer would tackle the suspect. I have no problem with use of the taser, because i'd imagine it limits the amount of retarded lawsuits people would try to file over broken limbs and whatnot.

I don't think anyone would have a problem if he asked the guy to stop filming out of courtesy (for the humiliation of the guy getting arrested if nothing else). What people have a problem with is a LEO abusing their authority and threatening to arrest someone (and potentially assaulting them by pushing the camera down) for engaging in perfectly legal filming of public servants doing their job in a public place. It wasn't illegal to film Selma or Rodney King, and it is no more illegal to film the arrest of a drunk college kid on the street. Frankly I think it would be a good thing for both the law enforcement community and public at large if wrongful threats of arrest/legal ramifications by a law enforcement officer faced criminal or administrative sanction. It would seem to be a reasonable expectation for someone carrying the full force of the law, and considering an arrest is a huge hassle even if it doesn't hold up in court. I don't think there is any question that a building inspector would face serious consequences if they threatened to fail an inspection for someone filming them doing their job.

On the other hand, if the issue was ordering what they perceived as a mob to disperse, the deputies would generally get the benefit of the doubt.
