Most likely their system decided that you weren't close enough to another already scheduled delivery to warrant sending it early. They will thus wait until the last day to deliver because it both meets your specified shipment time requirements and creates the possibility that someone else may get a new shipment in close to you that they could deliver at the same time to save fuel.

i always ship using USPS and my stuff always arrives either on time or a day early.

i've had problems with UPS and FedEx about 50% of the time or more. either it's late or they try to deliver it in the late afternoon when i'm not here. it's like they expect you to have nothing better to do than to sit around waiting for them to deliver your shit.

when there's a holiday on a monday, the hubs run on sunday night but not monday. so, if the package arrived in g-boro on sunday, it should've left for the raleigh hub on tues for delivery on wed. it may have gotten left in the hub or it may be at some point in transit, but they didn't scan it

UPS is consistently at my house between 11 and 1...of course, that means i usually take a 2-hour lunch

actually, it's the same driver every time and he seems like a nice guy...as annoying as it is that my package sat in greensboro for several days for no reason i can determine, UPS and fedex have always been pretty good to me

USPS has gotten better, but the "track" part of their "track and confirm" system is still a joke

yea, they're pretty shitty about this..and mildly retarded too. i've had them leave packages at the nearest hubs (that got there a few days ahead of when the package was supposed to be delivered) and they just left it sitting there until the day before it was due..even when i had other packages come and they could have easily thrown that package in with another and delivered two at once.. but no, they suck ass and have to wait until the last minute

i didn't "agree" on a time with them...i paid for 3-7 day shipping and it's a bit annoying when they opt for the 7-day when the 3-day is feasible and realistic

don't get me wrong, by and large i have no complaints with either UPS or fedex...the vast majority of the time they get me my package on time (once or twice a day early!) and that's fine

in this particular case, i'm noting that they could have gotten it to me AT LEAST a day early and they chose not to, though i'm sure they have their own reasons that i'm not aware of...whether those reasons are a lack of motivation, or efficiency, or blatant laziness, i don't know

UPS always sucks as their huge sorting facility in Greensboro and anything that goes there sits at least a day. Then for me when it gets to raleigh it sits all day in Raleigh and I normally get it at like 5pm. So much for actually being able to do anything with it that day.

Shippers use a hub and spoke model, just like airlines. Charlotte has a large facility, but Greensboro and Raleigh are the hubs.
