Anyone know of a KVW/other unit that can extend a pc's monitor & usb to two displays a good distance away. I've seen a couple that will with PS2 on cables to go, but I really prefer usb.
Application is in an industrial environment at work and we want to put a pc terminal at both ends of a machine. Need USB for keyboard & bar code input at both ends. Only 1 operator, so I wanted to use the same PC for both ends of the line.
Only other option i have is to run a separate line for USB and separate for the monitor I guess. 6/5/2010 12:27:27 PM |

I've used USB over ethernet to moderate success. They say it's good for 300-500 feet depending on model. I only have to run mine around 100 feet.
It works, but we're only running 800x600 and a keyboard over it. I'm sure you'll need to test it because you're basically relocating a USB port 1:1 - so you can't exceed the bandwidth of a single USB connection for all the connections at the far end. Think of it as a USB hub with a 500' cord. 6/5/2010 12:47:56 PM |

Can't believe the pricing on some of this stuff. Might be cheaper just to get some thin-clients and put them in a box. 6/5/2010 4:23:46 PM |
