Quote : | "The D.C District Court will now have to decide whether or not the ISPs of the alleged infringers will be ordered to hand over the personal information of the users associated with the IP-addresses. If this happens, the customers who are identified will receive a settlement offer of $2,500. Through this scheme, the USCG and Hurt Lockers’ makers hope to collect millions of dollars in revenue, beating their box office earnings.
It’s interesting to note that none of the IP-addresses in this first batch are linked to Time Warner customers. The ISP in question is the only one that is standing up against the money grab, as it went to court hoping to prevent a subpoena that will force them to expose hundreds of customers to the USCG. Time Warner claims that this process would prove too time consuming." |
GG Time Warner for standing up for...someone. I read that article awhile back that talked about how much work it was to get the IP addresses, and how it took time from required/essential look ups like in terrorist and CP cases6/10/2010 2:12:37 PM |

the district court cant rule that the information can be handed over unless they find that they have a reasonable amount of proof of wrongdoing, i'm not sure they have that. actually pretty positive they don't.

Forgive my ignorance.
But why can't people just claim they weren't the ones who downloaded it...someone else must have been using their computer or ip address? 6/10/2010 10:41:44 PM |

The account owner is liable for how his/her IP address is used.

This seems like a good advertising chance for Time Warner.
