So tonight I got involved in a conversation with another employee and some costumers. The girl I work with said, "What is the Golden Gate Bridge? I have never heard of it." She is a college graduate too. How many of you knew what the Golden Gate Bridge is and where it is located before you read this thread? It shouldn't take a 4 year degree is history, geography, or engineering to know what this thing is, right?

I'll give you everything but Yosemite. If you don't know Yosemite, you didn't pay attention in history class. You're also missing out on one of the best parks in the country

Maybe they are biased towards their own region and feel that it's not important to know about other regions?

Honestly, the tar pits kinda suck.

It's really cool in theory, and then you get there and it's just... not impressive.

The tar pits are in LA, but they aren't all that well known compared to other things like the White House, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Disney World, etc. Even uneducated people should know where these things are.

This isn't the first time I have met someone who didn't know where a famous land mark was located. On September 11, 2001 I was working at Crossroads Ford in Cary and a guy I worked with pulled up in a car and said, "What's the Pentagon?" I said, "It's the largest government building in Washington DC." He wasn't the brightest person I have ever met.

^Miracles! I think God knew that those men would be big someday so he decided to make mountains look like their faces.

I wish a mountain had my face on the side of it, then I would know that I'd be loved someday.

The Golden Gate is the opening to San Francisco Bay. Named because most of the people and materials for the 1849 gold rush came through it. The bridge spans it. And yes, I would think it would be part of a basic cultural literacy.

haha SILLY! A pentoGRAM is a five sided object. A good example is that really popular government building outside of DC.
