Really surprised no one as made a thread on this yet...
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/06/360-250gb-slim-hands-on-full-details-bonus-its-sexy.ars
Anyone got any opinions on it?
I think its a good redesign. Hopefully without all the problems of its original. I might actually go get one. 6/15/2010 12:07:37 AM |

I will be attempting to find one this weekend unless the PS3 conference blows me away.
Mine died just over a week ago and was looking for a replacement.
They have taken away the 3 red ring error, and now claim the main light will turn red if there is a problem "but no one will ever see that" 6/15/2010 7:43:04 AM |

looks like a tiny alienware PC, with slight design touches of the original XBOX
it's like the PS3 Slim though, I have no use for it since I have the original
hopefully the integrated wifi is a damned sight better than the ps3's

Doesn't look that much slimmer than the regular 360
When PS2 came out with the slim, it was like 1/2 - 1/3 the overall size of the first PS2
The "slim" 360 looks like its about a half an inch slimmer 6/15/2010 2:25:05 PM |

it's probably the same dimensions as the original, yet they painted it black because black is a slimming color. 6/15/2010 2:38:10 PM |

Trade in your old Xbox 360 at gamestop and receive credit towards the new Slim.
Trade in value listed here: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/specialty/tradeins/
If I trade in my system, 20gb HDD, and a couple of controllers I can end up paying about $100 for a new slim. 6/16/2010 10:51:28 PM |

I guess they've made some improvements in heat dispersion. I would have thought that smaller = more heating problems = greater potential for RRoD. 6/18/2010 7:32:44 AM |

The more I look at it, the uglier it gets. And it's really not that much smaller than the OG.
BUT, if it's quiet... 6/18/2010 8:34:33 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
It's not really slimmer at all, it's 2 inches shorter but that's the only difference in dimensions.
I like the way it looks but I'm interested because I feel like my xbox is a time bomb waiting to go off. I only have 6 months left on my warranty I think, so if I can get $130 for my xbox and hard drive now I feel like it will have been worth it. Plus I'll be able to get rid of the ethernet cable running through my house, since I refused to pay $100 for a wireless adapter. 6/19/2010 10:48:42 AM |

They are coming out with this now, but the question to be answered is when in the next gen consoles coming coming out? I would expect Winter 2012. 6/19/2010 12:33:03 PM |

Pretty sure they are trying to make this generation last longer than previous ones, so I wouldn't expect the next consoles from Sony or MS until 2013 or 14. 6/19/2010 12:41:46 PM |

I think they look broken in the photos. Perhaps this is an attempt to divert our attention from what is likely to be broken 6 months from now.
I don't know, it is easy to rip on the 360 hardware but I do hope they have finally figured out how to keep a disc in the drive if your subwoofer vibrates the floor. 6/20/2010 1:20:33 AM |

Quote : | "Okay, so we're just going to put this out there: at least one of our new Xbox 360s is anything but "whisper quiet" when it's playing a game. It's almost totally silent when it's doing something that doesn't require spinning a disc, but as soon as that happens, there's a loud hum -- we measured it at 60db, or about the same as our older 360. The sound itself is way different -- a steady low hum instead of the old whine and clunking sounds -- but it's definitely there, no matter where we move the console or how we position it. Here's the video:" |
Quote : | " * Although it's not quite as hot as the original, the new Xbox 360 still generates a fair amount of heat, which is vented out through that stealth-fighter vent on the side. That means you shouldn't put anything on top of it if you're placing it horizontally in a cabinent -- you'll block the vent and end up baking everything. * It definitely loaded up Modern Warfare 2 faster than our original 360. * The HDD transfer utility has been refreshed: instead of an all-or-nothing approach you can pick and choose what content to bring over, and it doesn't automatically wipe the destination drive. Installed games don't go along for the ride (songs ripped from Rock Band and Lego Rock Band transferred just fine, though) and anything else you opt to leave behind will still remain on the original drive. * What the transfer cable doesn't appear to do anymore is transfer the licenses for your DLC to new hardware -- at least it didn't for us. That means a trip to http://www.xbox.com/en-us/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/ and plenty of redownloading if you like to play offline, or on other profiles on the same box. * As we noted during our E3 hands-on, the system doesn't see the built-in WiFi as built-in -- it says WiFi adapter detected. Amusing, if nothing else. * Your old HD component cables will still work -- we're actually using our old ones at 1080i and it looks just fine. Obviously you'll need to make sure your TV supports component 1080p to get that res -- otherwise you can just use HDMI. * There is an IR port -- our remote worked just fine. It looks like it's hidden in the controller connect button, from what we can tell. " |
