Lie to Me is back on the air! Anyone else watching??
Technically, its still only Season 2 (which started in September last year) even though the show had a 6 month hiatus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lie_to_Me
But that's Fox for you.

I watch this show. I think it's doomed though.
I liked the first season, but this season it appears that the writers have been instructed to sensational the scripts. Catching unknown serial killers and thwarting pentagon hit squads.
I really hope they get back to basics. 6/16/2010 2:31:50 PM |

Basics don't pay for that kickass office building in downtown DC. 6/16/2010 2:57:51 PM |

^^ Yah, I was kinda feeling the same way.
Actually for a good chunk of this season, Lightman hasn't taken on any actual cases. Instead, he just randomly falls into tracking down dangerous killers and criminals (i guess for free). That's been the case for the last 2 episodes anyways.
They have also almost stopped pointing out how they know someone is lying. Thats one of the things I enjoyed seeing in the first season. You can say that might make the writing tedious or clunky, but I think that's true only if you're concerned with quickly moving to the next action sequence. If anyone disagrees, you should probably pick up almost any Sherlock Holmes story or novel. A lot of the fun is seeing he solves the mystery.
Ahhh well.

Well the truth is there's really not much science to it all. Lie detectors are props and theatrics, nothing more. It was a fun concept for a show though. 6/16/2010 3:10:03 PM |

Yeah I love this show. Don't know why people don't make threads for this or The Mentalist. 6/16/2010 4:38:47 PM |

I kinda agee... it's turned into lightman going "See that... you're lying" and leaving it at that.
I've been enjoying this season alot though... I guess I'm just a sucker for sensationalised crap6/16/2010 4:46:01 PM |

Oddly enough, I know most people that like Lie to Me and House also like the Mentalist, but I just don't like it really (even though I enjoy the other two shows). I guess what irks me is that rarely explain how he performs these apparent mind reading tricks, even though they insist he isn't actually reading minds and is only using his acute powers of perception.
Of course, I base that assessment after only seeing 1 episode. So I could be wrong. 6/16/2010 4:46:37 PM |

^I enjoy the Mentalist very much. The show as a whole is just better than Lie to Me. I find Lie to Me somewhat painful to watch, thus i don't anymore. Simon Baker's Patrick Jane is more enjoyable than Tim Roth, IMO. but to each their own. 6/16/2010 5:07:09 PM |

Both characters are interesting. And Socks`` some later episodes do explain how he does it. His explanation of how he counts cards by creating a "memory palace" or something like that was interesting. All about assigning a name and story for every card in the deck yadda yadda yadda. Not to mention the whole Red John story arc is very interesting, although there are sometimes long gaps in between those eps. 6/16/2010 5:17:03 PM |

Apparently that's how those rainman retards do arithmetic. They give each numeral a name, shape, and personality. Then they let the numbers have a party in their brain. The numbers are the only thing they think about since they were young, so their interactions seem natural. 6/16/2010 6:12:01 PM |

I'd watch the mentalist but I'd rather watch Psych than a Psych rip-off.

Last nights episode was a lot better. I am glad they are brining in this new chick. I am hoping she will make a good foil for Lightman. They definitely need something to drive the show besides the interaction the existing characters.
Lightman/Foster - going no where fast apparently
Lightman/Loker - could be interesting because it looks like they may push Loker to be less of a hero-worshipper in the future (after Lightman didnt give a fuck about him after he got blown up), but of course they have not done shit with it yet.
Lightman/Torres - Interesting, but not really explored in this season that I remember (Blinded was prob their best episode together).
Torres/Loker - could be interesting, but again not doing anything with it.
So I don't know. Maybe a new character wont help. They have material sitting there already. They just are not using it. *shrug* What makes anyone thing they will use this character to her full potential?

I liked the episode too, but it seems they keep trying to challenge Lightman in new and more creative ways. The problem with that is eventually they will run out of ideas or they will border on the side of ludacris. The introduction of this rich widow as a possible regular and the financial problem of the business was an interesting touch. I'll see how it plays out. 7/13/2010 5:50:12 PM |

Aha! the Shield reunites!
I've counted three former cast members so far. I hope Vic and Shane make cameos.

i have given up on the show improving this season.
i keep getting the feeling like they told the writers to drop the "boring science stuff" and pump up the action.
current episode is 30 minutes in and only 1 "lie" exposed. the rest feels like an old-school detective show.
oh well. its still better than anything else on tv on monday nights. here's looking to next season. 8/16/2010 9:34:12 PM |
