Quote :
"the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, which will go before Congress later this year. The bill would make P2P or BitTorrent client development a criminal offense if the distributed software was used for infringement. It also implements an interesting provision called "imminent infringement", which allows the government to charge people who they think might be about to infringe with a civil offense (for example if you searched "torrent daft punk"). This is among the first official "thought crime" provisions to be proposed by the U.S. government. The bill also makes it a criminal offense to bypass DRM."

If this bill passes, everyone posting in this thread in a manner that reveals that they're even thinking about downloading would be a criminal.

Obama has given his thumbs up to thought crimes.

The end is near.

we are of the mind that stuff should be free, so why pay rapidshare to download stuff? I am not talking about apps, we are talking movies, which you MUST have a premie accnt to download within a reasonable span of time (unless you think waiting 70 seconds + 1 hour between 50 or so .rars is fun).

and so we're clear, gtfo with that usenet uue pedo bullshit you dirty son of a bitch.

because they are about the quickest to upload torrents for tv shows after they air, and you don't have to wait till the next day or later for them to show up on hulu or the network's site. Makes perfect sense to me.

1337x.org for good quality dvd and blu-ray rips of new releases. Also has a good amount of screeners and R5 versions if you are into that kind of thing. Not too good if you are looking for something >2 years old though.

I'm very un-surprised by this....

that and this will be ruled unconstitutional in a heartbeat, so why law makers are wasting their time with it is a nice example of all the chucklefucks we have in DC right now. (not just the elected ones either)

Earth is getting smaller and the places we can run to for as safehaven are getting obsolete.

We better hope for a cure to age and ability to travel to other life sustaining planets in order to get away from Earth.

....until technology gets so good that it can govern the entire universe.

Maybe if it were reasonably priced, it wouldn't be a problem to go to the store and buy software.

Unfortunately it's marked up 1700%.

^^CS5 can be purchased from any number of online retailers for 15-20% below retail price. A 10 second search of google products or bing shopping confirms this.

It's VERY reasonably priced for being commercial enterprise software.

If you want it for personal use, go buy Photoshop Elements 9. It's 1/10th the price and does everything the home user needs and more.

Photoshop CS5. Buy US$699; Upgrade from US$199;

Simply unreasonable.

I have an idea.

YOU go and buy it. Give it to me as charity. $700 doesn't seem like an issue for you. Problem solved.

Why do people bitch so much/little about how much other people pay for physical commodities but almost never condemn people for stealing software/digital content? Only people in the industry ever seem to have a problem with it and even those people are usually guilty of it themselves

A car costs $20k. Is that unreasonable so you just steal one?

Yes, I own it. I got CS4 as a student (which converts to a full license on graduation) and I have a CS5 license for Photoshop. Photoshop (and ALL of the Suite products) are COMMERCIAL applications. They are for BUSINESS USE, you know people who use the software to MAKE MONEY.

And you can buy CS5 for under 500 bucks online if you take 20 seconds to look.

Or you can get Essentials for under 60 bucks online if you take 20 seconds to look.

Not wanting to pay the price for it doesn't justify you pirating the shit, it means you don't actually NEED it. Go download the Gimp and stop stealing.

Noen's personal opinion on piracy is the minority opinion among most techs/coders I know. It doesn't make it right, but it's true. These are the same people that do engineering, or code, for major software companies.
