Maybe...

"SULLIVAN'S ISLAND -- Singing on a public street might become illegal.

Town Council approved an ordinance last week that added whistling, hooting, hollering and singing on a public street to a list of potentially disturbing noises.

According to the proposed law, it would be illegal to yell, shout, hoot, whistle or sing on public streets especially overnight from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. or at any time or place if it's annoying people nearby, in an office or in a home. The new provision would be ratified at the regular July council meeting.

Sullivan's Island Town Administrator Andy Benke said in an e-mail that town officials have nothing against singing. The wording is a copy of the North Charleston law where annoying singing already is illegal.

With the addition, Sullivan's Island's and North Charleston's noise ordinances would match.

Spencer Pryor, North Charleston police public information officer, said he can't remember police issuing a singing fine once in the seven years he's served the town.

Sullivan's Island Town Council adopted the new rules in an attempt to resolve what has been a serious issue on the island -- regulating peace and quiet in the neighborhoods closest to the commercial district.

Islander Marshall Stith, who owns Station 22, one of the commercial businesses, said he's happy about the change because he lives just two blocks away from the small commercial zone.

"Sullivan's Island takes pride in being a residential community. During the late night hours, neighbors should have the opportunity for peace and quiet," he said.

He said most businesses do a good job of trying to keep their customers quiet.

Sullivan's Island code already prohibits crying, calling, shouting, whistling, rattling, using a bell, gong, clapper, horn or hammer, drum or making about any other loud noise imaginable.

The law also says establishments aren't allowed to play or operate amplified music between the hours of 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

"It's one tool the town can use to maintain the residential character of the island," Stith said. "

I live on Sullivans Island, and it's all anyone can talk about right now. It's fucking hilarious because we have the much ridiculous cops ever, and they will absolutely write people tickets for this shit.

I'm so glad I'm moving off this island soon and back downtown.

Quote :
"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Gilligan's Isle.

So this is the tale of the castaways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primitive as can be.

So join us here each week my friends,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle.""

There are literally 3 or 4 bars in a half block radius that constitute the "commercial district" of this island.

So on Fridays and Saturdays it gets a little rowdy. But this year they made every bar shut all their doors and windows after 10pm, so you basically can't here any sound coming out of the bars (there are bands most nights at one bar and a DJ on weekend nights at another). So basically there is some "hooting and hollering" and apparently "singing" and "whistling" going on late night by patrons leaving the bar. And it's gotten everyone's panties in a wad.

It sucks for the few that live close to the bars (maybe a few houses), but it's only "bad" on the weekends. And even then, it's really not that bad (I live half a block away from the bars). It's just very comical to see how they continue to try and deal with it.

^^That sucks too. It can be done (with solo cups and being very "tame"), but its just a pain in the ass. The dog/leash laws are pretty ridiculous too.

I tell everybody just to drive a few extra miles to the Isle of Palms and have harassment-free fun.

We were tame using cups and coozies (6 girls sitting around under an umbrella playing catch phrase...2 weren't even drinking) but we were still harrassed by the fuzz. He was the biggest jerk.

He kept saying there were signs at our public access, but there weren't. There were 4 signs about picking up dog shit and the leash law, but none about drinking. Least not at our access.

After 40 minutes of being treated like scum and humiliating a friend asking her how much she weighed (she's a big girl) for the ticket he deferred hers and let us go with a warning luckily.

He was just so adamant about signs...then there weren't any. Annoying.

That sucks. I know there are dickhead cops everywhere, but almost every single Sullivans Island cop is a dickhead. They are the epitome of guys who got made fun of when in grade school and became a cop to try and make up for it. It's ridiculous. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them.
