WTF?

http://www.wral.com/news/national_world/national/story/7844282/

Quote :
"Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick says he objects to a new policy in Provincetown allowing even elementary school students to receive free condoms, and to do so without telling their parents.

The Democrat told The Associated Press he called Superintendent Beth Singer on Thursday to register his complaint after media reports about the policy approved June 10 by the Cape Cod community's school board."

Im down with this in schools but why the hell at that age??

Let a playground player play.

Seriously, though, if a nine-year-old is gonna be fuckin', isn't it better that he use a condom? I mean, best practices.

I highly doubt first graders are getting condoms to have sexual intercourse.

Would you have?

I know that some elementary schools up there still run K-6. I don't see an issue with teaching 6th graders about condoms usage.

I think it's about getting them comfortable with condoms so they won't hesitate to use them in the future.

Seriously though, I don't know what we're gonna do about this condom thing. A lot of eople just won't use them.

I think we're gonna need to come at things from the research for STD cures/birth control angle.

thats old hat in europe, dude
the new deal is mandatory "sexual encounter education" with groups of tested prostitutes going school to school and fucking the kids. they then grade them on their "safety" and "anti-social tendancies" to send off to the national offices

we're such a backwoods country way behind the curve

But I wonder if those two girls were knocked up by boy of the same age. I highly doubt it. Most likely some pervert teenage boy or their 47 year old uncle. Just saying....

^ ditto that

I mean what the hell? Not going to terminate that? You're going to take on a project like that and you're not even out of elementary school? (I won't say "ruin your life," but I would personally think my life were ruined if I decided to carry a pregnancy to term while I was only in elementary school. Like whoa )

I would think it would be medically dangerous for a kid that young to carry a pregnancy full term.

It's socially dangerous for you to carry a baby to full term.

The article doesn’t say that the the school was giving the kids condoms, only that they were allowed to.

It seems dumb to have a school’s hands tied by regulation from even having the option to give an elementary school kid of condom in the very rare outside case they needed one.

Yeah I'd agree that it's medically and socially dangerous. The elementary schooler is not doing their unborn child any favors by deciding to carry to term at this age. I'm too lazy to dig up statistics, but strongly feel I've read them which indicate a child born to such a mother has dramatic challenges in life ahead.

To state the obvious.

I'm gonna bet that more than likely it wasn't the child's decision to keep or terminate the pregnancy.

There are some cases where it's immoral not to abort a pregnancy.

such a sensationalist thread title. The idea is to to make condoms available to 11 year old pubescent kids through their school, which happens to be elementary.

Sensationalist journalist take this and twist it to "OMG CONDOMS TO FIVE YEAR OLDS"

um

Provincetown is known to have a lot of homosexual men. Northampton, across the state is a lesbian town (it's home to one of the Seven Sisters, Mount Holyoke)

so, i doubt it was the home of a pregnancy pact.

Quote :
"The girls who made the pregnancy pact — some of whom, according to Sullivan, reacted to the news that they were expecting with high fives and plans for baby showers — declined to be interviewed. So did their parents. But Amanda Ireland, who graduated from Gloucester High on June 8, thinks she knows why these girls wanted to get pregnant. Ireland, 18, gave birth her freshman year and says some of her now pregnant schoolmates regularly approached her in the hall, remarking how lucky she was to have a baby. "They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally," Ireland says. "I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m.""
