No amount of can do it justice.

Cute little "I'm not a nugget" chicken on the front. . .
http://www.petacatalog.com/products/2011_PETA_s_Student_Planner-345-3.html

Retarded propaganda geared to influence impressionable teenagers. . .

Hahaha one of the pages for Thanksgiving Day (for Canada. . lol?) says alongside the holiday: "Thanksgiving is Murder on Turkeys Day" and then at the bottom the little bubble says "Did you know? There is no law in the U.S. that prevents any animal experiments - no matter how unnecessary or painful. WTF!?" Oh PETA.

It really says "WTF"?

Anyway, more power to them (not more power to PETA in general, but definitely in this endeavor)

Getting more people off of animal flesh and animal products? Great... people will live longer, and so will the planet. What's bad about that?

About the 3 pages:

Page 1: I don't care about the blood and pus, as milk is pasteurized. But the bit about pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics? Most definitely true.

Page 2: Giving up meat and animal products will in most cases mean losing weight (unless you stuff yourself with 2 pounds of bread and potatoes every day).

Page 3: Thanksgiving is most definitely "Murder on Turkeys Day". As for the law, is that true? If so, that's fucked up and legislators better make some laws.

plants grow pretty fast to maturity.

the planet will live longer because the animal flesh industry is one of the major pollutants of the planet and contributor of greenhouse gases. this is known, numbers are out there. maybe even the biggest one.

^^Not true, at least at HT. I buy Hunter Farms instead of HT milk because I think it tastes better, and they claim to be RBGH free. I'm sure there are other things in it, and I don't care that much.

Farm fresh milk (the kind that is local and not homogenized) is really good.

Whole foods
Publix
Ralphs
Vonns
and i think Bi-Lo

all carry milk that says no RBGH, Rbst, hormones or steroid antibiotics were given to cows by our farmsrs.

Since the Euro ban a few years ago, most places say no rbgh but these places go the extra mile. As an avid milk drinker, its the only thing I buy.

It's the exact same milk. I used to dairy stuff at HT and actually took a tour of Hunter Farms where both brands come out of the same production line.

Nothing is inherently bad about an organization fighting for a cause that they believe will ultimately be better for animals, but go about it in a way that is factual, accurate, and non-extremist. Also, It sets off the " " section of my brain in the exact same way as someone coming up to me and wanting to "save" me and "bring me to the lord" and tell me that I'm going to hell for wearing pants.

I agree with you that going vegan WILL physically make you lose weight, but you should do it because you want to, not just so you can look good for that summer bathing suit. It's catering to young girls that will do anything to look like they think they're supposed to. That's what my issue was with that particular one.

The cow one is dumb - unless you are drinking it straight from the teat there is no chance for blood and pus to survive the pasteurization process. Any Dairy Farmers worth their salt that drink their own product, which may not be pasteurized, know to strip the milk on the ground before they milk the cow to check for mastitis or signs the milk is no good.

Yeah it really DOES say "WTF?!" and the statement is bullshit. There are so many laws and regs and committees concerning animal research - OLAW, Animal Welfare ACT, UFAW, IACUC, FDA, The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and AAALAC just to name a few. Committees are required to consist of scientists, non-scientists, and members of the general public to review experimental protocols and deem whether or not they are appropriate before approving them to move forward. No animal research facility can exist without adhering to these laws and it is in their best interest to adhere to them (if not for the animal's sake alone) just to not have one of these organizations shut the place down.

The famous motto used in animal research was created in 1954 - the three R's. Refinement, Replacement, and Reduction. Refine your experiment to minimize to the fullest amount any pain or distress caused to the animals you will be testing on. This can be done by local/general anesthetics, analgesics, and tranquilizers. If the animal's pain and distress cannot be accurately measured, the rule of thumb is to assume that the animal will feel and experience the experimental material to the exact same degree and human subject would. If we were to just talk in strictly dollars, it's not in the researcher's best interest to cause animals pain and distress for no reason. Just the rise in cortisol levels alone would fuck up their study too much by adding variables and compromising it's validity = loss of grant money = loss of research = loss of their job. Replacement refers to using anything but an animal model to do this experiment, like cultured human cells or tissues instead of the actual animal. Again, in monetary terms it's less expensive to pay for some cultured cells and tissue than it is to pay for an animal, it's housing, it's care, veterinary attention, and labor of the animal technicians performing the day to day husbandry. Reduction means what it sounds like. It refers to using the fewest number of animals possible to achieve the most information within the scope of the experiment.

Dear Peta,

There is absolutely nothing you could tell me that would get me to stop eating animals and animal products. If you told me that fried chicken turned people gay, I'd stop at Priscilla's to buy lube on my way to Bojangles, just in case. If you said that cheese gives people ebola, I'd finalize my will over nachos.

I get it -- eating animals and their products will kill me. Unfortunately, so will being born, and that ship has sailed. So I can either eat the ungodly awful vegan shit you guys are fond of -- and, thanks to a close relationship with some Indian people and an ill-advised relationship with some hippies, I have tried quite a range of ungodly awful vegan shit -- and live a little bit longer, or I can do things I goddamn well enjoy while I'm still alive.

And when I die, slightly before you do, I will use my last breath to curse you.

Sincerely,
Ian "chicken holocaust" Booth

Eating animals and animal products won't kill you.

Ask any professional athlete who would be in much better physical condition than any vegan if they eat an all vegetable diet.

The problem isn't the product it's the preparation. Chicken is perfectly healthy. A double-down isn't.

There was a Peta chick on my hall sophomore year, and she'd cover her door with fliers and pictures of factory farms and shit, and honestly, every time I walked by that door, it made me hungry.

^Yeah, I'm aware. Jesus, sorry for not going into explicit detail. Besides, fried chicken is more delicious than other kinds of chicken, and it will kill you.

half true. chicken is not as healthy today as it used to be. today's chicken's have TWICE the fat/gram of chicken's from 1970s and 1980s. the problem is the preparation AND how the raising of the animals. meat was a ton healthier in the old days. it had less fat, less saturated fat, a fuck ton more omega 3, no dangerous man-made chemicals, etc.

studies consistently show that vegetarians live longer.

yeah well we are talking about normal people here, not pro athletes. and "physical condition" doesn't necessarily mean "healthier". would you call bodybuilders "healthy"? yeah, they can crush you with their fingers, but a normal sized runner or martial artist is physiologically/biochemically far healthier than a bodybuilder.
