Not planning a beach trip and would like to avoid the Raleigh fair grounds if possible. Where are some good spots in the general eastern NC area?

Was going to the mud cats stadium and park in the parking lot but apparently they have an away game on the 4th.

The fireworks show at Lake Gaston is pretty good. Especially if you can get a spot on the Eaton Ferry bridge.

Just start a thread on BBQ types, you'll see plenty of fireworks.

You can see the fairground fireworks plenty of places other than the fairgrounds themselves

the solas idea (or anywhere that has a good unobstructed view) actually is not a bad one- unless you are one of those people that need to be right there to almost feel them exploding

^ If they're smart, a lot.

Checked their website and there seems to be zero mention of the fireworks. Maybe they aren't so smart after all.

When I was a kid we would always go out to the juvi prison to watch the fireworks. Isn't that where the big museum park is now? I bet that's a really nice set up for watching the fireworks compared to 15 years ago

Eaton Ferry is a really good time. If you have a boat and someone who doesn't mind driving I recommend checking out the show in Pea Hill Creek. They will have a jet flyover and skydivers just before it gets dark.

Has anyone ever seen the fireworks at Tanglewood?

Keeping in mind I'm less than 30 minutes away, would it be worth it?

heading to lake benson in garner for the annual 3rd of july celebration (symphony is cheaper that day) with a great fireworks show at the end.

Free parking/rides for kids (big blow-up rooms) and decent music during the afternoon, plus a field where you can throw whatever ball/frisbee/etc.

I park at my parents and walk there, but if you drive, just come before 7 and make it a full afternoon event.

As for sunday, Ill see cary and raleigh fireworks from my back porch, as its a bit elevated.

I've been. They're pretty awesome, and they let you come in early and bring a picnic and drinks. They shoot them off in the Steeplechase area (where the NC Winefest is). Drawbacks: It was crowded as hell when I went, meaning getting in and out is a pain. It's also $5 ... not much, but I prefer free.

If you're in that area, I'd just head over to Shallowford Square in Lewisville. They've got a great, free display and live music to go along with it.

free in fuquay... I can watch them from our patio.

Crowded as hell though if you go to the actual fields.
