This stuff works pretty well, but you have to be consistent in giving them to your dog every day.
as far as the grass growing back, wait till the fall, and re-seed that spot. I'd recommend turning up the soil a bit and maybe even adding in some rich lawn/potting/whatever soil, as those spots tend to become fairly deep divots in my yard at least.
Or, if you have a bermuda lawn, the high concentration of nitrogen in the urine doesn't kill it. But fescue burns out, it's just too frail of a damn grass in general.
I wish I had a way of harvesting all of my dogs' urine, and then diluting it with water and using it to feed my lawn. It'd save me some money on fertilizer each year.

My two dogs (little ones) pee in the same spot all the time, and that's like the best looking spot on my lawn. 7/1/2010 10:39:24 AM |

My sister used to live in some hoity toity townhome community and theysaid feeding the dog tomato juice would help keep the urine from turning the grass. I have no idea though. 7/1/2010 1:49:27 PM |

Aside from all these products, can you designate an area of your yard that the dog can do its business in? Like a sacrificial spot? That would cut down on how much lawn you need to worry about.
Someone on here trained their dog to pee on mulch or woodchips to not kill the lawn as well. 7/1/2010 6:16:21 PM |

raising my first dog in an apartment, i got to teach her to pee/poop in pinestraw only, so thankfully that's what she does now that she has a backyard. my other dog was so hard to housebreak that we were just happy to get her out of the house and off the deck before she let loose...so she pees right smack in the middle of the grass. right about this time of year is when the spots are the worst b/c she's still peeing and we're not getting rain. i've tried feeding those grass pills but doing it daily gets old. you could try watering the grass after they go...which would also be a PITA but w/ this mini drought it could be a good idea lol 7/3/2010 9:07:25 AM |

If you have a watering can and follow the dog to water where is just peed it works well and dilutes whatever kills the grass. 7/3/2010 2:33:36 PM |
