Someone picked that question up at 12 am. I'm impressed. My Eng teacher said it was about the downfall of America too. But I never saw that in the piece.

When did Batman's ears go from short and stubby to long and pointy?

legit answer to the ears question

i'm not 100% sure

but i've read like the first 100 batman stories from detective & batman

and i want to say that the short ears started with the artist dick sprang (no homo)

i believe that was part of a conscious effort to brighten batman's appearance

make him a bit kid-friendlier

^Seconding. Try anything that doesn't look like something you normally see on the standardized Chinese food menu. I've had some unique dishes there that I liked a lot, despite having eaten so much Golden Dragon the last two years that I'm pretty sure I've picked up Chinese.

The Book of Genesis (KJV) is crucial. Great use of language, neat imagery, and it'll tell you everything you need to know about the Judeo-Christian religions (i.e. they're fucking crazy). That's a big deal, 'cause you can hardly turn a page in a work of English without tripping over a Biblical reference.

You should certainly read Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. They're quintessentially American stories that are great examples of unreliable narrators, and both feature beautifully versatile use of English. They're really turn you on to the possibilities of the fiction novel.

For non-fiction, I just finished Ray Kurzweil's The Singularity is Near. Given how quickly we're advancing beyond biological intelligence, you ought to read that to correct your perceptions of what it means to be human and to be intelligent—kind of a primer for the future.

A Different Universe: Reinventing Physics from the Bottom Down by Robert Laughlin is another good brain-adjusting read. It hips you to emergence as a key feature of physical reality. There's more to the world than subatomic particles. I think that shit is important for your paradigm, yo.

Oh, and this:

Discuss the reasons for which the War Requiem was written--was it appropriate? Did it do what it was supposed to do? (From the perspective of the patrons? The composer? The audience?)

Choose at least three sections of the Requiem (for instance, a portion of the Dies Irae, Offertory, and Agnus Die) for close listening, analysis and commentary in support of your discussion.

This would be a great option, if Cloo's were the only place to eat in Raleigh.

It's not cash only.

But there are still 44 places to eat better food within 3 miles of where you're trying to eat.

I'm just saying.

Unless you want to be condescended for reading a comic book withinin the respective square footage.

in that case, by all means, eat a fucking hot dog at Cloo's, or a sub-par cheeseburger.

I mean let's face it. hot dogs are the salt of the earth. even bad ones.

I realize Netstorm has invited you to ask me about music, but I'm afraid that asking me about bombastic orchestral shit isn't gonna get much mileage. I'm not gonna pretend to know.

True story: I tried reading Snow Crash for the first time when I was 20. I couldn't get off the first page. I can't really put my finger on it, but I think it has something to do with the fact that he writes sentences like, "The Deliverator belongs to an elite order, a hallowed subcategory."

Has anyone cast you out for that reason? Probably not, so probably no. You ought to watch the first one, though. It's good! The rest are shitty.

I haven't seen it, but I doubt it. We live in a world where G-Force made $281 million.

The worst film I've seen recently is The Limits of Control. More like the limits of my patience.

Good question! I've been trying off and on to slog my way through The Quest of the Holy Grail for half a year now. Everyone and everything that happens in that book is irredeemably stupid.

^^^^ It's not "bombastic orchestral shit"--it's a masterpiece. FYI.

And don't feel too bad--I knew you couldn't answer the question. That's why I posted it.

FTR, composer and pacifist Benjamin Britten interwove poems by the great English war poet Wilfred Owen with the traditional Latin text. Owen, a soldier, was killed in action in 1918.

Hey, that's great. Does an orchestra play it? I'm pretty sure Dies Irae is the definition of bombastic.
