We added a new PC in our reception area but there is no wall drop for it. I hooked up a switched from one of the wall outlets, hooked up the main reception PC to the switch and ran a cable to the secondary reception PC and also hooked to the switch.
Upon connecting both computers to the switch they cannot ping the server.
So I unplug the switch (thinking that its bad) and put in a little wireless router. After several pings it finally sees the server but it's veryyyyy slow and still takes a long time to assign DNS. I actually logged into the router and tried to refresh the IP but it would never take it. After about 5 minutes or so it finally took it.
I took the previous switch and hooked it up in my office and it works flawlessly. Same with the router.
I'm not sure whats going on with that wall jack. If I plug a PC directly into the jack everything runs perfect but when I plug a switch/router in it doesn't like it on either PC. any suggestions?

cut me a crossover cable to connect to the wall plate and switch. Worked perfect.

no, it was actually a 10/100/1000 switch (linksys gigabit EG008W).
I honestly think they might have key punched the wall mount wrong. When i plugged in a regular networking cable i got no signal/activity light. When I plug in the crossover it works. I can plug the same switch into my wall socket in my office and it works flawlessly with everything else. All lights show activity.
The girl who was using the outlet had a regular cable going from her PC to the wall. Really weird.
