I am selling my 2003 Yamaha GP 1300r jet ski. I am asking $2000, o.b.o. Ski is worth ~ $4,000 according to NADA. Ski needs motor mounts tightened and a new exhaust manifold, which is the reason for the reduced price. I am also including my craigslist post for those interested.

Is the exhaust manifold cracked or something? Any idea how/why the manifold and motor mounts became damaged? 7/12/2010 4:41:21 PM |

The manifold is cracked. The motor mounts are not damaged, just a few bolts have backed themselves out. As to why the manifold cracked, I don't know. As far as the bolts, I believe that the cracked manifold created excess vibration which caused the bolts to back out. 7/12/2010 5:50:02 PM |

Is part #1 the cracked part? (Big cast metal piece at the bottom right side of pic.) Does it come with a trailer?

im a jetski noob......but that object pictured doesnt really contain exhaust gas does it? if it is exhaust what do the rubber hoses do? I've seen something similar on DIY turbo cars to burn off blowby fumes but was never sure how well it worked. 7/19/2010 7:52:12 PM |

rubber hoses are for coolant. water gets sucked in from the bottom of the jetski and ultimately goes out the exhaust. that is why when you "flush" a jetski out (run clean water through the engine after you're done using it basically) you never turn the water on without the engine running.. 7/19/2010 9:19:32 PM |

Yeah, the exhaust on a ski has separate chambers for routing water to and from the engine. The big inner chamber is for exhaust gasses. The smaller chambers molded into the exhaust are for routing water. I've always theorized that it helps keep the exhaust from overheating the engine bay, but I don't know that for sure.
I don't really think of that as the "exhaust manifold" though. It bolts up to the manifold. Maybe it could be an intermediary pipe or something.
In any case, this isn't a bad deal as long as there aren't any other major issues. I just don't want another project right now or else I'd check it out and make an offer. 7/19/2010 10:41:02 PM |
