Dude was just found innocent, his defense: she was lying
(although I'm pretty sure he is still a scum bag)

Former teacher denies indecent liberties charges

RALEIGH, N.C. — A former first-grade teacher in Wake County denied any wrongdoing Wednesday in a case in which he's accused of taking indecent liberties with a 7-year-old student.

George Johnson said the child, who attended Wakelon Elementary School in Zebulon where Johnson worked, had a history of lying and not being truthful.

Johnson, 61, of 1794 Ravenwing Drive in Fuquay-Varina, was arrested last July on two counts each of taking indecent liberties with a child and indecent liberties with a student by a teacher.

He resigned from his job a month later after being a teacher in the Wake County Public School System since 2007.

The charges stem from two incidents in May 2009, where Johnson allegedly had improper contact with the girl while at school.

If convicted, Johnson could face a maximum of 52 months in prison, prosecutors said."

If he's been found not guilty, it seems really grimy for WRAL to publish his home address like that. WTF ??!?

I agree. Lame.

Didn't somebody just get released from prison because the child that had accused him recanted?
(something from the Duke Innocence Project)

In fact, I *just* got home. We stayed late to render a verdict so that it wouldn't run into another day.

As much as I hate child sexual abuse, I just as much hate it when someone leads a child to lie about it being done.

I don't know if this is what happened in this case, but if that little girl did lie then that really fucking sucks, and I'd be looking at the parents to see if they were trying to push for this to happen for a few extra bucks.

We found him not guilty on all charges.

The state did not adequately prove their case to satisfy all 12 jurors of his guilt beyond reasonable doubt. There were mixed opinions all around of whether or not the girl was telling the truth, but little doubt that there was not sufficient evidence to find him guilty.

why would anyone have to lead her to lie? as someone who works with kids you should realize that they will lie for no reason sometimes.

Because something like that is not something that a 6 year old girl would make up on her own. If a 6 year old girl is saying that her teacher touched her and her teacher didn't really touch her there is something else going on. Either someone got her to lie about it or she had been abused by someone else.

That's why it is so important to take it very seriously anytime a young child talks about something like that.

However, if she did make that up on her own then she is not getting the proper supervision at home and being exposed to things that she should not be exposed to.

The little girl in question is a very brilliant 7 year old little girl with older siblings. Also, the things that she accused him of aren't as lascivious as the imagination might lead you to believe.

Well really what I'm saying is generalized. Which I know isn't the case for all situations. I don't know the details of that case, so I don't really know.

However, from my past experience what I have said has been the case.

Latarian Milton was 7 years old when he said "it's fun to do bad things."

Some events that recently transpired with a friend of mine (that i can't go into) has convinced me that kids can be vicious and cruel with their lies. it's obviously VERY rare, but it can happen. Kids can learn more than our society often expects of them, and some kids figure this out on their own.

I doubt that he is going to want to go back into teaching after this whole experience. It was really sad because it was his first full year teaching his own class in Wake County.

This is the real tragedy.
He did nothing, yet his life is ruined.

How do we stop this?
We can't just keep suspects' identities secret, can we? (and only make public the identities of actual convicts...)
I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work for a variety of reasons.

So how do we stop this? This is serious shit. (sorry crazy_carl)

Oh, yeah, sorry.

He might have done something. Might have.

No, you're right. It's perfectly okay to ruin the life of someone who might have done something.

Every singly one of you that thinks it's okay that this guy's life is ruined deserves to be falsely accused of some heinous crime and have your lives ruined. You fucking monsters.

In fact, the jury was instructed that the accused is presumed innocent and has to prove nothing in this type of case. The entire burden is on the State to prove that the defendant is guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the crimes that he is accused of committing.

...and even if found not guilty, they might actually be guilty. The same way someone never even charged might actually be guilty. Being accused of a crime versus not being accused of a crime matters not in terms of one's presumption of innocence.

Anyone that disagrees honestly deserves to be falsely accused of some heinous crime.
(Well, maybe you don't actually deserve it, but you better fucking get a clue.)
