[rant]So I had to e-mail 3 times and make a phone call to ask some of the players from my soccer team if they are returning. Finally they gave me an answer. Others said, "yeh I saw your e-mail" and didn't respond for some reason, but when we spoke on the phone it took about 10 seconds to make up their mind and give an answer. Tonight I got an e-mail from a company that I might apply for a job with. I already did once and never got a call back, but I might give it a second try because I need to find something and the location is great. It took the HR person 4 days to respond and say that they do have more openings. Last time I was there she was getting bored while sitting at her desk and told me how she likes it when they open the blinds, so she can look out the window.

I hate it when people don't respond. My dad isn't too into the internet, but he even checks his e-mail about every 3 days.[/rant]

I usually type out my reply first then print it out to proofread then put it in an envelope and mail it. You can't trust that dang internet.

It's a big pet peeve of mine when people don't answer emails promptly. Personal emails I can let slide but when I'm asking questions or coordinating some shit, you best answer me in a fashionable manner

^That is how I feel too. It shouldn't take 4 days to say, "Yes we have a job opening again" when you don't do shit all day at work.

Maybe you're not qualified and they don't want to bother with creepy people.

Maybe they looked you up on Facebook and got scared off when they saw "making collages of girls on the internet and potato-head dolls" as one of your interests.

^^I don't even know if I am going to reapply. I am just annoyed that people never respond, or take a long time to respond when they know they are going to respond.

My problems is often I'll be out doing something, have a moment free, and glance at my new emails on my iPhone. It'll show the message as read and although i intend to get back to it as soon as I can, i usually forget until later

but in general days in unacceptable, especially in the business world for something that is quick response

^Yeh I don't mind if it takes a day, or maybe even two, but when you are trying to organize something then people involved need to respond within 48 hours. It sure helps if they do that.

Depends on the email. I got about 70 "unopened" emails this month so far that I "haven't gotten to" yet.

So now I just checked the roster for my soccer team. One of the guys is no longer on roster. I called him the other night to say he needed to pay, if he was going to join. I guess he can't even be nice enough to send an e-mail and say he is not interested in playing anymore.

sometimes within mere seconds if its important and doesnt require a lengthy response

but i've had my email synchronized on my phone since like 2002 so i'm used to constantly being annoyed with emails

at work it depends on the importance. i'll respond any time between immediately and by the end of the day. just because you mark it "URGENT!!!" doesn't mean i'm going to respond any faster. especially if you mark everything "URGENT!!!".

personal emails i may or may not respond to. if i do, its generally a couple days.

If it can be a quick 5-10 second response, immediately. Otherwise it goes into my pool of emails to deal with. Especially work emails, they can take a decent amount of thought and the context switching for each email messes me up.

Personal emails I can be REAL slow to respond to.... I star them in anticipation for dealing with them when I get home, then when I'm home I don't want to deal with them

I'll be honest (baonest), people who don't reply to emails in a timely manner have to be one of my top 5 pet peeves.

With the exception of family, if it's getting a response, I try to respond when I first read the email. Keeps it off my to-do list

Family...man, it depends who, and what the fuck they want.

Work: immediately.

Well it turns out that he was taken out of the system and then added back a few minutes later. I just happened to log on and see the name no longer there. I did get an e-mail from the guy saying the payment to the league should be straightened out now. I have had issues over the past week with people not responding about taking my last beer & bourbon Fest ticket though. This is starting to tick me off too. My brother inlaw will get rid of it tomorrow though, so no worries.

You're supposed to wait three days so you don't seem too eager.

I average less than 10 minutes on support emails.

However if you're 'one of those' who thinks they need 400 reminders to be sent. Well, you might have to wait a while.

The only time I intentionally delay a response is if I need to look into it in depth - and most of the time I'll confirm I received it, look into it, and get back.

Inter-office Work email...I generally wait at least 30 minutes so people are fooled into believing I'm actually working and not just waiting for something to come across my desk

Work email from a client...within a few hours

Work email from a prospective client...immediately

Personal email...varies; generally within the same day

If someone said they had an extra ticket to an event and offered it through an e-mail then I would respond quickly, so that I could make sure to get the ticket, or at least give them time to find someone else who wants it.
