Yea so I just finished the The Wire and I'm looking for something similar. Anyone have any suggestions? I know David Simon's other works, but nothing looks like it would live up to The Wire.







Also does anyone know why The Wire stopped at Season 5 considering The Greek and the corrupt FBI Director were still never discovered? I watched the Features on the last disc and I was hoping for an interview like on Season 3.

you're not gonna find anything as good as The Wire imo

The Corner is good (another David Simon show, only 6 episodes)...its pretty depressing though, and being only 6 episodes, its not going to carry you for multiple seasons

The Shield is kind of like if you give a couple retarded people the premise of The Wire and told them to make a show...its ok, its kind of the same type show, but its not as good

Have you watched the entire Sopranos series? While it isn't flawless throughout, its a very good show.

Also to completely flip the script, I'd recommend The Office, Arrested Development and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, if you want quality comedy shows

nothing will ever come close to the Wire. just get used to that.

as far as ending at season 5...shit, consider yourself lucky you got 5 seasons. HBO was on the brink of cancelling this show after every season. David Simon was able to make a condensed 5th season and finish telling the epic that he set out to tell.

and you probably won't get the answers you are looking for. If you've played the features on the DVD and listened to the commentary you've realized that David Simon isn't much of a talker and getting anything out of him is like pulling teeth.

I always thought that the FBI director guy wasn't corrupt, but that the Greek was an asset of the FBI for something that was a higher priority than drug trafficking or prositution (such as terrorism) and that was the reason the FBI guy tipped him off. But that ambiguity is part of what makes this show so great.

The Shield is the obvious choice. The first season is weak, but Seasons 2 and 3 are excellent and I prefer them to some seasons of the Wire.
