We have two records up for grabs this season

72-10 is a difficult yet real possibility for the Miami Heat.

9-73 is a real possibility for the Washington Wizards.

We know the Heat have the stars, but the supporting cast is super old and they need to be really efficient to get them over the hump. Injuries could also play a significant role.

The Wizards already looked horrible and now that John Wall has confirmed he isn't ready for the NBA they look like they are going to make a real push for a single digit win season. You have to wonder why they didn't take a sure thing...

I highly doubt either record is broken.

Also I'll bet rally gets more excited about stuff like this than the NBA playoffs, since all of his arguments are generally based on regular season stats

24 and 8 ain't too shabby

Sure his defense isn't up to snuff, but not many guards come in and play lockdown D from day 1. I don't think four summer league games is enough to confirm he isn't ready for the association.

okay, so Im looking into the future a little bit obviously you can't know for sure how bad he will be come regular season, but if he's struggling this mightily with the D-Leaguers in summer league and had trouble living up to expectations in college then it's pretty safe to assume he'll flop his rookie year in the NBA, right?

Remember, Cousins won't be in Washington with him this year so he can't hide...

ehhh, I don't want to come off as a Wall apologist, but maybe he wasn't going as hard as he possibly could have?

The #1 rule for guys like that is to not get hurt. If a guy gets by you, let him go and live to play another day.

Well let's see we have a PG that misses every shot and turns the ball over constantly who will be playing for a team devoid of talent.

Yeah, 9-73 is definitely within the realm of possibility.

yeah, this is a pretty weak trolling attempt.

Quote :
"John Wall(notes) sat comfortably on the bench in a white T-shirt and pants during the Washington Wizards’ summer league finale Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas. The Wizards gave Wall the game off because they already had seen enough from their rookie guard – almost all of it good.

Other than a slow start in his first game, Wall dazzled Las Vegas, making him – and the Wizards – the big winners of summer league.

Wall dominated the Las Vegas summer league, averaging 23.5 points and 7.8 assists – both highs for the league – in four games. The Wizards rookie needs to work on his jump shot (he missed all but one of his eight 3-point attempts) and he also committed an average of 5.2 turnovers. Even so, Wall showed off not only his own scoring prowess, but also the ability to make his teammates better.

He displayed leadership and accepted coaching – both important traits for someone who will be the centerpiece of the Wizards’ rebuilding

Troll? Wall played horribly in the summer league. If he can't get it done there, he will definitely suck in the NBA.

^ That is a fluff article spouting typical hype bullshit.
Quote :
"
I read this article on Yahoo.com, and it raved about John Wall’s scoring abilities. It was so ebullient in its praise, I had to double check his statistics to make sure I hadn’t misread them. I thought he shot the ball poorly.

He did. He made 37% of his shots, and this was against Summer League defense, not Rajon Rondo. Oh, the article mentions he struggled with “his 3s”, which he certainly did, going 1 for 8. So he did well with his 2s then? Ah, only if this were Summer League 1953. Wall shot 40% on his 2s… that’s Jennings bad. In fact, if it weren’t for his uncharacteristically good free throw shooting, his vaunted scoring would have been nonexistent. As it was, it was noneffective. (That said, he does show a nice ability to penetrate and get to the free throw line).

Oh, but the article mentions he had trouble with turnovers. The article didn’t make it sound like a huge deal. After all, he’s only a point guard, its not as though he’s asked to handle the ball.

Wall will probably be something like 16-18 points and 6-8 assists on the season. TOs might be a bit high, he'll probably have 2-3 steals a game but overall play bad defense. He's a highly talented rookie, but he's a rookie and on a bad team.

Wall has his issues like any other rookie and he probably isn't worthy of the praises heaped upon him for his summer league performance but to state he was horrible is a bit silly considering he was voted the most outstanding player in the Vegas summer league...

5.2 turnovers and 37% shooting? He was horrible, period.

And yes I realize it was only a few games, but it's not like this is new. He was a terrible shooter in college too.
Quote :
"
According to their data, John Wall is near the bottom of SEC point guards in terms of 2 point jump shooting, at a woeful 30.4%. And he is just in the middle of the SEC point guard pack when it comes to 3 point jump shooting, with an eFG% of 49.0%.

That gives him an overall collegiate jump shooting eFG% of 38.9%. Compare that to the NBA eFG% of notorious PG bricklayer, TJ Ford. Ford’s jump shot eFG last season, according to 82games, is 40.6%. And that was good enough to get him run out of a starting job in Indiana (in fairness, as a rookie Ford was at 33.5%, but those of course are NBA numbers, not college numbers).

Rajon Rondo is also accused of having a piss poor jump shot. His jump shot eFG% is just behind Wall’s at 37.4%. Again, pro versus college numbers.

So Wall’s “special talent” clearly isn’t converting jump shots into points.

What about Wall’s finishing skills? Is that where his excellence lies? Not really. He’s decent on inside shots, successfully converting 57.1%. But that is, again, only middle of the pack for point guards in his conference. And most of the other point guards in his conference will never sniff the NBA.

^no argument there, Rose played well down the stretch last year but the first half of his season was a debacle. He's not guaranteed to become a great player by any stretch of the imagination.

But I was actually referring to Wall who looks like he is in for a LONG season in Washington. Not only is he not NBA ready, he's got big expectations for some reason, and his teammates are just plain horrible.

Yeah, jennings totally collapsed off his hot start last year and actually had a pretty rough rookie season.

The bucks had a great supporting cast though with bogut, mbah moute, ridnour, ilyasova, and delfino basically all having career years.

The wizards have a horrid supporting cast with the exception of blatche (if he can stay healthy) and mcgee to a lesser extent. Arenas is a slight wild card to ever be productive again but the rest of the roster is almost worthless.

Yi played well in fiba but he's been so terrible his first three years I'm not sure that means anything.

If adam morrison cracks the rotation then look out, the floor is the limit

It certainly isn't a troll thread its a way to follow two teams who are sure to make headlines when they lose (miami) and when they win (washington).

It could also be a quite profitable thread if they set the wizards line around 20 wins this season...

So far I've got $700 on Wizards under 34.5 wins this year.

Ive also got $300 on Warriors over 30.5

$200 Philly under 35.5

$200 Sacramento over 27.5

$100 Portland over 51.5

$100 Indiana under 34.5

These all look pretty golden but really I need to stop messing around and get more on the Wizards because thats the most ridiculous line I've ever seen. They will be lucky to win half that many games.

^ Wall is going to suck donkey balls this season. If Griffin stays healthy he's already sewn up the ROY award he is an instant impact player. Cousins should be the lead candidate if Griffin goes down because he'll be marginally productive this year whereas Wall won't shoot 40% and will probably be close to leading PG's in turnovers if he gets enough minutes.

anything less than a 70 win season for the heat and john wall getting hurt and missing the season or averaging 5 ppg will be a failure for the stats guru. write it down.

also the eagles will win the super bowl.

1) Nowhere in this thread did I predict the Cavs WILL win 70 games. You just made that up. They certainly have the talent to challenge 72 wins but there is no way to know if all those players can come together fast enough to play flawless enough to beat the record this year. Also, they are weak inside and an injury to one of the big three would be enough to derail them. Also, we don't know if 72 wins is important to them. It certainly was to the Bulls and they made it a mission to win all those games. If the Heat don't do that then they won't break the record for sure. If you'll notice I bet on ~6 different over/unders and the Heat wasn't one of them.

2) Nowhere in this thread did I try to predict John Wall's PPG. That's difficult to predict because I don't know how many times he will shoot. I would think ~13-16 PPG would be a reasonable estimate. What I am more than willing to predict is that he will struggle to shoot 40% and he will be one of the league leaders in turnovers per game. The Wizards are going to suck big time and he will be one of the reasons.

3) I am willing to admit there will be some writers who will continue to hype John Wall for no apparent reason this year, but I am not willing to admit he will sniff Blake Griffin's jock strap if he can stay healthy. Griffin will already be one of the better players in the NBA this season as a rookie. John Wall will only be better than a select handful of starting PG's (Jrue Holiday, Johnny Flynn, and DJ Augustin come to mind initially).

Haha whoops obviously I meant the Heat, going to have to get used to Lebron not being a Cav.

The Cavs over under is 30 I believe, I like the over. They should have the motivation to play hard with the "no one believes in us" card and their talent alone looks like a ~35 win team or so if they can adjust to playing without Lebron quickly.

hey fellas it's rally. alright enough already its been over a week. basketball season is getting ready to start and you guys are going to need someone around here to explain what's happening out there.

For the record I ended up with $1400 on wizards under ( half at 34.5 and half at 32 the line moved dramatically after i declared it the lock of the year). Im actually a little nervous about the development of Javale McGee. He looks like he could get the Wizards a few more wins this year than I anticipated, so I doubt they win less than 15-20 anymore.

Philly i have $600 on under (half 35.5 and half 34.5)

Warriors i have $300 over 30.5

Sacramento $200 over 27.5

Charlotte $200 under 39.5

Portland $100 over 51.5

Indiana $100 under 34.5

I didnt get to a couple good looking ones like Utah under 48.5 and nets over 25.5 but i didnt wanna tie up more than 3 grand for so long.

Most of these lines have moved a bit in my favor since i got them over the past week or so, which is really because these all look exceptionally good. I'm so cocky i might just spend the winnings now.

Unsuspend me so you have a voice of reason for NBA. Otherwise you'll be stuck listening to no-nothings who think Kobe and Carmelo are the best players in the league.

* DO ME A FAVOR IF THEY WONT RE-INSTATE ME, SKOKIAAN, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED ON HOW BAD JOHN WALL SUCKS THIS YEAR SO THEY CAN CONTINUE TO HATE MY OMNIPOTENCE. They will focus on his points while ignoring his 40% FG and near league leading turnovers.

[Edited on October 26, 2010 at 12:17 AM. Reason : thanks]

Oh yeah also, 72 wins was in play before Mike Miller got hurt. Now they look like a 62-65 win team, can't see them even getting to 70 without Miller for 25 games.

I do AGREE that John Wall will be mediocre this year with a ton of TOs and a poor FG %.
