The best sushi is the sushi you make yourself.

I really want to start doing that actually- my sister used to do it and she said it wasn't too hard (the hardest part is getting the rice to the right consistency)

and yes, I know that is just a parody response, but there is my 2cents

it's not that hard, really. yeah, my rice wasn't perfect, but if you roll it tight it'll all stay together long enough to eat.

I love having sushi parties at home but really it's so time consuming I don't do it very often.

Waraji is good. Sushi Tsune is great if you're looking for authentic sushi. I also like that sushi restaurant that's near Earth Fare in Brier Creek for their specialty rolls.

Sono (Fayetteville st.)
Tokyo House (N. Raleigh)
Waraji (W. Raleigh)

no order, these are my favs

Mura and Sono are both G. Patel's restaurants so they have similar menus, etc. but Sono is just a little better.

The best place in town hands down used to be a little place called Kuki in Falls Village but it shut down unfortunately... only place where you could get real Japanese traditionals

I've heard the fish at Sono isn't particularly fresh. Like if you're going for American-style rolls it's fine but to steer clear of the basic nigiri.

Why waste time on the best sushi in Raleigh when you can go to Kashin, the best sushi in Cary?

In Raleigh, the best sushi for your money is BOGO sushi during weekday lunch at Tasu in Brier Creek. I guess that's technically Morrisville.

^ I second Kashin
I go there fairly frequently, always has good stuff.

Also Champa Thai & Sushi in Brier creek was damn good as well

i don't understand why raleigh (or surrounding areas) does not have any all you can eat sushi places...

these are pretty popular in other states and cities.

Maybe I Just don't know about one?

Mt. Fuji in Fuquay has half-price rolls on Tuesday.
We went yesterday and got 5 rolls (wasabi, mexican, rainbow, california, spicy tuna) and it was a total of 20 bucks.

Define "decent"
They don't do any BOGO . . . but they have the best Dynamite roll I've ever had.

^^^ I would think that would work based on the prices listed below, however I have not had sake there so I cannot speak for that and I don't know how much you people eat

http://www.kashin.com/Sushi.html

Word of warning: the #9 roll is lava hot death in your mouth. I can take some spicy sauces but if you get it, ask for it on the side or you and your asshole will be sorry.

Yeah, I don't know. It's usually $4.00 or $5.00 for two pieces of nigiri, right? That's average, isn't it?

I believe that is the restaurant next door- not positive... it is on glenwood in the shopping center with the harris teeter right where oberlin hits

I've never actually eaten inside there, but we get their togo sushi about 2 times a month. My gf loves it because they have a really good sweet potato roll nom nom nom

My brother and his roommate went to Sono on a Wednesday night once and got sushi. Both were extremely sick for the next 2 days. A month later, they decided to give it another try, went back on a Wednesday again and were very sick afterwards again.

Brother called up there and whoever he talked to said the fish comes in fresh on Thursdays. So by Tuesday/Wednesday, the fish at Sono isn't the freshest it should be.

Really all that means is that they're retards about their food management. I don't need to go to a restaurant that has a reputation for shitty fish that gives people food poisoning

From a Yelp review of Waraji

Quote :
"The word "Waraji" is a fusion between the Japanese words for "joining together" and "tasty". So it's all about putting together ingredients that create a tasty experience. The owner, chef Masa Tsujimura came to the US as a young man with other plans than opening a restaurant, he told us at his cooking class at Southern Season in Chapel Hill, then got hooked on the feeling of giving people pleasure by serving great food."

I'm laughing so hard at this. Firstly, I know that dude's ass is from New York originally. Second, "waraji" means these:

I guess kudos to him for suckering some retard yuppies at A Southern Season.
