Fuckkkkkkkkkkk...

Damn, download one fucking episode of Law and Order and NBC is one you like white on rice. It was a C&D, but I did it on my parents internet. I know NBC isn't going to do shit over an episode of L&O. Still a bit annoyed though. From what I can tell, NBC didn't file a subpoena, nor did the letter sent to Charter indicate that it would file for a subpoena as long as I deleted the file and stopped uploading/downloading it.

Once art is created, it belongs to everyone.

NBC is the thief. They're trying to steal L&O from the people.

One of the worst ideas you can have is to post a thread after receiving a DMCA takedown notice. The last thing you need to do is to identify yourself.

^^ And then use the news story about merbigs facerape as the basis for an episode of SVU

It's a vicious cycle.

So if another person hacks into someone's wireless connection and downloads a shit ton of stuff the person who was unaware of this going on will have to pay for it?

How would I be identifying myself? I didn't post anything regarding the notice (IE, reference numbers, timestamps, IP addresses, episode name, ect) that would identify me as the violator.

^^^ they care just as much about this nowadays as they did before. and they've gotten better at identifying infringers.

^^ i know that, but you're talking about it at all. any good lawyer is gonna tell you to shut your pie hole on this one. self-incrimination in any form is a bad idea, and Google *does* index this place.

^^^^ Well, NBC isn't the ones who actually caught me. It was another company. What's funny, is the company asks that you send them an e-mail telling them you have complied. This wasn't mentioned in the notice, but rather at the site's FAQ, which I had to look up as it was not in the notice. There is no way in hell I am telling them anything, as they do not know who pirated the file, and such an e-mail would tell them who it is (without needing a subpoena), as well as admitting guilt.

Since it's the first notice I have ever gotten, and the file hasn't even been uploaded/downloaded for over 2 weeks, I doubt NBC is going to come after me. They're not as bad as the RIAA or MPAA. I've never heard of NBC suing anyone for downloading their shows (movies, perhaps).

^ Yeah, I think Law and Order is the one notable show that stands out that isn't on Hulu. Most of the other good shows (to me) are on Hulu, and as such, I wouldn't download them.

Probably not, but you shouldn't be assuming anything. They have the legal right to file a lawsuit against you right now, if they so choose. Seems to me like you'd be better served by ending your thread now.

Well iTunes needs to let you transfer your library from one computer to another, especially if it's your 2nd computer or something.

If there was an easy way to do it, that would help me out. I'm not trying to buy songs twice just cause I want them on my other computer.

why would they? so people watch something other than their channel?

would you watch reruns on cable with commercials if you had netflix and could watch them commercial free whenever you want?

If you're watching something via Netflix, the original content owner isn't making any money from that. The only time they see any $ from it is when Netflix buys the physical DVD.

^^ I would watch them on Cable because I wouldn't like to wait a week for them to be on Netflix. I'm not saying it has to be a big advertisement, but maybe a little thing in the bottom of the screen that says "also available on Netflix."

Not to mention that these companies often sell their shows in syndication to different networks. At that point, why would they care if they watch the rerun or not?

About the only time I see NBC showing re-runs of L&O is during the summer when nobody watches TV, and even then, they may not get through the whole previous season or they may choose to show some other crappy show instead of re-runs.

^ Are you sure abou that? I'm pretty sure Netflix is paying some type of licensing fee for being allowed to show their show. It may be an inclusive type of fee, where they are able to show a bunch of shows in one license, or each show may be licensed individually.

They may have to pay some sort of license fee for Instant View streaming stuff, but the rest of their physical DVDs are straight up purchase-only stuff.

Buy your music from amazon.com. Their mp3s can be copied and you don't need a password or any bs like that to play them on other computers
