I'm planning a work bowling outing and I need to find a nice bowling alley in the Raleigh area
must serve alcohol must be clean must have specials must be during the evening/late night must keep score automatically
so Western Lanes won't do.
I hate planning events, but no one else will do it.

I'd bowl in your alley, if that's what you're referring to. 7/23/2010 12:00:56 AM |

like what roads close to your work?
i think most of the places tend to keep similar services/specials
AMF/Buffalo Lanes/etc 7/23/2010 12:09:52 AM |

well, we'll probably all meet at someone's place prior to the bowling so that we can pre-game/carpool. So, which ever bowling alley we use will decide where we meet prior. I was thinking about North Buffaloe Lanes but I'm not sure if they sell alcohol or not. Guess I can give them a call and see what's up. 7/23/2010 12:14:26 AM |

Buffalo lanes does not sell alcohol; its a family entertainment business so that's out.

AMF has decent googlemaps reviews and is smoke free (according to a Jan 2010 review). On their website you can "Plan an event" but I'm not sure what that all does as far as discounts and whatnot. One review talks about "package deals" so I'd suggest going that route. It has food and a full bar.

Completing that form is just an inquiry, so you can fill it out and they get back to you. Or, just call it in. That's probably faster.
AMF does "Xtreme bowling" which seems about right for a bunch of work drunks. No telling on the scoring system; one review from March 2009 says that the "screens froze up" so that implies that there is an automatic scoring system. An earlier review, Jan 2009, says that the scores were kept manually, but its possible they switched to automatic scoring.
I'd go with AMF. They have midnight bowling for a bunch of drunks, is smoke free, and is right next to work anyway. The only other option to have alcohol period is Western Lanes. Besides that, the only bowling alleys in the Raleigh/Cary area look like different branches of the AMF and Buffaloe Lanes franchises.

If keeping score is what's keeping you out of Western lanes you need to suck it up.
People have smart phones now, I'm sure there's a bowling score app. 7/23/2010 10:53:49 AM |

Yeah I've been to the pleasant valley AMF and it's pretty nice. Meets all those criteria, plus it costs too much! Win win win all around. 7/23/2010 11:09:15 AM |
