Previous hiking threads were outdated. Thought i'd start one. Of course it is early on a Friday so I might have done fucked up.
Anyway. Thinking about going hiking this weekend with a group of people. Considering the Wilson Creek Wilderness area because the water's warm (was there last weekend and it was like a swimming pool).
Been considering doing the South Harper trail. About 10 miles round trip I believe.

I need to pick up some topo/trail maps for the Wilson Creek area. I live in Charlotte. I think Great Outdoor has some. Anyone have any recommendations on where to get maps or hiking around that area? Thanks!!

granted, these don't say "hiking" in particular:
the ANYTHING CAMPING/BACKPACKING (message_topic.aspx?topic=588561) thread has a lot of good information and is 7 pages or so
the App Trail (message_topic.aspx?topic=590656) thread may also be relevant 7/30/2010 10:20:50 AM |

I just got back from a moderate 8 mile hike in Grayson Highlands, Virginia. Saw about 25 wild ponies.

Does anyone know if I can get onto the bridge at grandfather mtn w/o paying the ridiculous admissions price if I start at an off-mountain trailhead? 8/8/2010 9:41:52 PM |
