or am I the only person in the entire world LOL!

I started out when I was about 12 on one and was scared to death, but got used to it

went again when I was... 14 or 15 and was just fine, and again at like 16-17 (I don't really remember)

then I went on one this past November and was just as scared as I was the first time

someone help me get over my fear of riding in airplanes plz - I'll have to go on one in the next year or so probably

I know it's supposedly true they crash less than you do in cars but...

takeoff is the scariest for me

what if that shit doesn't leave the ground

THEN WHAT

I don't like flying, but it's more because I'm not in control than anything else... I got over it quick with how much I flew when I lived in CA..

I've never been in an airplane and I never have any plans to do so. If I have to get in a plane to get there, then it's too far away to visit.

If you're scared of planes, I'm sure that you could get your doc to prescribe some anti-anxiety med or sedative for the flight.

i'm more afraid of the child that keeps kicking the back of my seat. a plane crash might be a blessing in that case.

the first time i flew in a commercial airline plane i only got really nervous right before the plane was about to take off ... but every since ive loved it

i flew in a Cessna-sized plane a couple times, wasn't nearly as nervous then for whatever reason

This won't help, but fear of flying is a totally sensible phobia. You're up miles in the sky in a metal tube...WTF!

I have no problems with flying, but I have a rather insensible understanding of physics...I imagine, in the event of a crash, I'll climb to the exit and jump out, then free fall for a while, before doing some sort of summersault and bouncing off something fluffy...it'll be fun!

oh no i'm absolutely terrified of a machine that i sit in that basically gets itself from point A to point B with little guidance from humans that is far more safe than when i take my life into my own hands every time i get behind the wheel of a car.

I'd jump out after BridgetSPK, attempt to catch up to her in the air, and then fornicate with her... trying my hardest to bust a nut before we hit the ground.

FACT.

I don't like to fly. I used to fly all the time as a kid, since my dad has worked with US Airways for about 30 years. Back then I liked it, but eventually, around the time I turned 13, I hated it. I'd get sick when flying, so I try to avoid it.

that's not a valid analogy...I mention the gay friends to show that, while I am ostensibly using homosexuality as a perjorative, I do not actually view it that way
however, I see your point, and you're probably right
but I don't like having a gay policeman around, to call me out when I disrespect gay people
why can't you be a passive homosexual, like evan?

I don't use "gay" as a disparaging adjective anymore, and honestly that's pretty much entirely due to your arguing against it. But I've been making jokes about gay sex for longer than some people on this board have been alive, so cut me some slack. Change takes time.

I've never flown before. I think if I ever got on a plane I'd be pretty nervous at first.

+1!! The one time I've had my luggage gone missing was when I flew to a funeral and it was literally a one night trip. Gah! (shoulda taken it on the plane, but I was in a hurry and didn't have toiletries small enough)

In addition, I get a little white knuckly during very bad turbulence.
And don't announce that we're delayed bc "an instrument is malfunctioning"...I've heard that three times!

Otherwise I'm cool

oh right. so now you just kinda tacitly use "gay" as a disparaging adjective with visual cues. that's some kind of progress there.

^^ I can agree with that. I mean it's not a fear, so I rightly shouldn't say this, but I would at the least be extremely peeved.

I almost had to be when they said "the luggage can't be removed from the plane because a bag got stuck in the track and the door (cargo door) won't open"

(according to my recollection)

Otherwise, I have a slight fear (of the discomfort) of not having a power outlet when I'm on a plane. I need those. Because I don't like the idea of running down my battery entirely. On a 12 hour flight, it's very possible.

I am not a big fan of my life being in a stranger's hands period. This is the main reason why I always volunteer to drive for road trips. That being said, I am not necessarily "scared as hell" of airplanes. But I do think about the possibility dying every time I have to take a flight.

over the last year or so im becoming more and more uncomfortable during the landings.

i fly 20-30 times per year, and it seems like they've gotten progressively less smooth.

or it could all be in my head.

but in june/july i had a streak of 9 straight flights landing in a thunderstorm that just was not cool.

I hate transatlantic flights. Not as nervous over regional though. When I flew to China we went over the North Pole (roughly) which was

My anxiety comes from turbulence, which I found out is more irrational because take offs (especially) and landings are where the real danger is.

Also, somebody made a point that air a fluid and just as a boat goes over ripples in the water and you feel it, so does a plane with the air

reading this thread helps

yeah that trip over the top is weird

did the same with toronto - > hong kong in july

standing at the pisser in flip flops, shorts, and a tshirt, a good buzz on from the open bar in business class, i came to a realization that if the plane went down i'd be pretty screwed

then realized that if the plane went down being cold is kinda a secondary worry

The trick is to be in a good mindset, because it's all relative. I do love flying, I do not love putting my life in a stranger's hands. However, if you compare jumping on a jet to the drive that got you to the airport, airplanes ain't shit.

Anyway, airports sell alcohol. When you inevitably have to get up and pee, climb over the fat talkative tool you got seated with, stroll 'em all up the aisle with a on your face, and think about how high you're walking. When you get back tell your neighbor about tdub til they're afraid to look at you. Go to sleep.

It should go like this:
Drive -
Airport -
Bar at airport -
Flight -
Landing - BALL OF FUCKING FLAMES - or
