Xp pro

most of the services which should start after booting aren't starting. Services shows they are disabled and it won't let me enable or start them. Normal startup is selected under msconfig. also nothing is showing up under device manager

help?

Error when trying to manually start service:
Configuration manager: the plug and play service or another required service is not available

sfc /scannow

and install updates when done.

also if the event log service is running, check there for errors.

Thanks will run the scan. Can't update since no services are running (including networking services). I did run a chkdsk earlier and nothing came of that

is it safe to assume that you've tried booting in safe mode?
