i have heard of them wrapping themselves up in something resembling a knot and constricting around the eggs inside them to break it. not sure if that's true either.

Not sure about rat snakes but there is a certain type of snake that has a special vertebra that enables it to crack eggs.. then I believe they spit the shell out or something like that
