So in my infinite wisdom, I tried to load custom firmware onto my droid eris without fully understanding what was going on.I had the newest 2.1 OTA update on it and I used the 1-click universal root app. I wasn't sure if it actually worked as the Superuser app did not show up on my app screen. But regardless, I decided to load Cyanogen in the quickboot menu (Power + Vol down). The mod loaded but when I restarted my phone, the screen hangs at the loading graphic. I then tried to load Kaosfroyo V29 and it did the same thing. Is there any alternative way to root the phone that doesn't require me to have the phone on? I can still transfer data to and from and flash firmware from the recovery menu. What about if I took it to verizon? I'm assuming that they wouldn't reflash it/replace it because I probably voided the warranty...[Edited on August 18, 2010 at 10:10 AM. Reason : sp]

knowing absolutely nothing about the droid eris, i would assume that if you can still get into the firmware memory, you can restore it to whatever it was...i assume you backed it up before flashing and/or have access to the original?

I haven't messed with rooting and custom ROMs and stuff on Android yet but I do know that the XDA forums seem to be the place to go for that kind of stuff. I would probably post your question over there if you don't get great results here.

You will probably want to research what the HTC equivalent of Motorola's RSD Tool is. On the Moto Droid, you can do a base-level factory reflash with an image and Moto's RSD tool, and I have to assume HTC has a similar tool that Verizon uses, so you should be able to get your hands on a copy.[Edited on August 18, 2010 at 10:43 AM. Reason : If you can even get to the bootloader, it's far from "bricked". If that makes you feel any better.]

You can try the instructions in the video below. They also have a lot more information at http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-droid-eris-how-tos/

I used the forums and tutorials at mydroidworld.com to root my droid and do all kinds of things, they might have info in their eris section for you.
