I actually like Barnes and Noble. Don't get me wrong, I visit my local independent bookstores and local used book stores all the time as well but I also like Barnes and Noble for the selection as far as different editions and bindings etc. that my favorite local stores don't always have due to limited selection. I do occasionally buy books online (especially when I am looking for a hard to find edition I may go the Amazon or Ebay route), but in general books are one thing I still really like to buy in person and I always prefer the hardcopy to the e-books. Just not the same (though nice for traveling).

Who still buys books? 8/18/2010 4:30:06 PM |

Books are outdated. They should have the entire library online so that anyone and everyone can access every book ever published. Each city should have just one library with paper copies for unexpected disasters like war and weather that knock out the power. Paper copies of the book could and should be purchased on the library website for personal collecting.
Now that I think about it, that's what they are currently doing at the library of congress and the project's going to take decades lol 8/18/2010 4:30:19 PM |

Of the big-box bookstores I highly prefer B&N. I like their ambience better than Borders.
Local bookstores are of course the first option when one is available, but they're so rare anymore... 8/18/2010 4:53:45 PM |

I like the store also.
And I like the online store. It's usually a dollar or two more than Amazon, but everything has free 2 day shipping.

I personally prefer reading books in paper. Much less eye strain. 8/18/2010 5:39:49 PM |

I happen to work for B&N and it doesn't seem as bad as it might look. (in my estimation) The likeliest buyers are and investment group made of many of the bigwigs within the company itself. As they already control much of the day to day operations of the company I dont see any looming changes if they were to become the owners as well. just my 2 cents though. 8/18/2010 6:03:39 PM |
