Does anyone know how long NC State will allow webmail access post graduating?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Might be permanent since they're switching to Google.

I figured I would get a quicker response (especially from you) than any search engine was capable of giving me.

This always confused me. I graduated in 2007, and after a few months I couldn't log on anymore. OK, I figured this would happen so no big deal. I get that they have limited room and can't keep people's shit forever. But then in 2009 I go back for grad school, and when I log onto webmail not only are all of my old e-mails still there, but I've been receiving new ones for the entire time. They didn't save any space at all, they just took away my e-mail access.

^Same thing happened to me. Access ended a few months after I graduated, then I worked for a couple of years, and started grad school last year. When I started back I had old e-mails and some new ones... mostly addressed to my cat b/c I changed all my subscriptions to my gmail back around when I was graduating except that I had submitted something to a petsmart contest several years back so they were still e-mailing my cat for those few years.

when they first did the move to google they said that it'd be active forever. apparently that's no longer the case.

^they haven't reversed that or said anything about that (just they're looking into permanent status). the policy just hasn't been changed/updated.

if they formerly said that you could keep them permanently, and now they're saying that they're looking into whether or not you can keep them permanently then they have changed that status.

^ Exactly right. And this what NCSU News Services put out based on OIT's comments:

Quote :
"As an added benefit, students will be able to access these tools using their existing e-mail addresses, which will still carry the tag @ncsu.edu. And now, instead of losing their NC State e-mail addresses when they graduate, students will keep them for life."

http://www.ncsu.edu/featured-stories/power-partnerships/jan-2010/google-email/index.php

But that has not happened. Anyone who thinks they know better is free to call the Help Desk and prove me wrong.

Because, clearly, that's what matters here.

what matters is you're obsessed with a minor detail of some policy that's not even that important

i find it entertaining

^ When years of someone's e-mail disappears because the account was supposed to be "for life" but actually wasn't, I don't think it'll be a "minor detail."
