If you didn't know, they remodeled the Glenwood Ave Golden Corral, and by remodel I mean leveled the old one and build a new fancy-shmancy building. I went on opening day last Friday, the food was basically the same except the selection was like tripled. Asian food section, texmex, plus all the old favorites. The dessert bar has soft serve still, but also like 8 flavors of scoop ice cream, chocolate fountain, fresh made donuts, and my still favorite banana pudding.

I would suggest sitting on the right when you come in, that's where the dessert bar is and there is a plate/silverware station as you go to the bars. The other side you have to walk back to the middle to get plates. It was pretty cold in there on opening day but that may have been to get ready for the noon rush (I got there at about 11). I really like the new decor, it still feels comfortable but definitely more modern. Also, just so you GC noobs know, you don't need a tray unless you are carrying like 8 cups for you kids. Just hold on to your glass and pay.

Will update after binge eating for the next hour

tl;dr- remodeled GC on glenwood, same location.

I haven't been in a long time. It's a great place to stuff yourself full of food. I should do this soon.

[Edited on August 21, 2010 at 11:43 AM. Reason : though apparently they had some issues with purchasing unwanted steaks from restaurants in the area]

I don't know about "unwanted" steaks, but they will definitely buy surplus whenever available, it can save you a ton of money and they are still the good steaks, just the original orderer didn't need as many as they thought. Unless we're talking like 10+ years ago.

Alright here we go, pardon the blurry cell phone pics

New facade

Seating

My first plate: Mashed potatos, corn, spinach alfredo pizza, fried chicken, bourbon street chicken, teriyaki chicken, rice, fried okra, yeast roll, and cheesey biscuit. Next couple plates I didn't take a picture of were a huge salad and then banana pudding.

CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN with apples, strawberries, and marshmallows to dip.

Dipped stuff and fudge

Homemade donuts made to order

New decor, different dishes with the recipe and a picture and quote. This quote says
Quote :
"My top 3 Golden Corral favorites:
1. Bourbon Street Chicken
2. Bourbon Street Chicken
3. Bourbon Street Chicken"

I went with my girlfriend and her family, here she is right after with her very full brother!

A couple things, it was a lot more comfortable temperature wise today. Also they put another plate rack to the left so there are plates close to all the tables now. I am very full and it was hard to type this without falling asleep, so time for a nap!

Every time I walk out of Golden Corral, I wish I hadn't gone to Golden Corral.

It always sounds good at the time, though.

As an aside this location has always been a testing store where they try new foods/machines and will continue to be. This style building is obviously new, there are 3 others built currently but this is the only one with the big facade on the front, the rest are basically big boxes but about 30% larger as they are in more populated areas with a bigger market.

Well in the interest of full disclosure my dad works for GC and I interned with the development department last summer. So I guess if you have any questions I could answer them too.

Well obviously GC caters to those who either feel that way or realize that it is the highest quality national buffet. Buffets aren't for everyone or every day but I enjoy going once a month and splurging.

GC ain't poole's, for sure

but the food's pretty good considering the variety of stuff they have to prepare and the time in which they have to deliver such quantities
