Their icon makes me think of monopoly houses. The show also makes me want to own a thousand properties in a thousand different locations. I've also learned that if I ever go on the show I must comment on granite counter-tops, steel appliances, and comment on rooms by saying its a good/nice size at least 4 times in an episode.

Also a fan of:

Yeah Property Virgins is similar enough that I like it a lot too, but not quite as much as House Hunters. Plus you can't really bet on which one they will pick in PV like you can in HH. And Sandra always has to ask people if they want to put an offer down ON THE VERY FIRST HOUSE THEY SEE AS IF THEY WOULD ACTUALLY EVER DO THAT!?!?!?

But over all I like Property Virgins a lot too. Watching House Hunters has caused me to catch a lot of other random programming on HGTV.

i agree, i definitely like house hunters more.

haha i'm glad theres another hgtv fan. i freaking love that channel. i started because i had bad anxiety so at night i could only watch things w/o creepy shows OR commercials for creepy shows/movies/etc on and HGTV is pretty much the ONLY channel like that. but then i got addicted to it

I love the International version. Gives me hope that I might actually be able to afford a retirement/vacation house abroad some day...which is my dream.

When watching these shows, I like to see the original air date so I can figure out what year this house purchase took place. I feel bad for the folks who are buying a house for $400K in 2007 because their house is probably now worth $275K.

Good shows though especially if there is nothing else on.

and there HAS to be a good spot for "entertaining" but then when it shows them at the end, their only friends are their parents and the realtor

also I read somewhere that the people on the show have already closed on the house before filming and the other two are just ones they considered before making their decision, so that's why it seems so fake and you hear the same comments about shit in every episode

[Edited on August 27, 2010 at 8:49 AM. Reason : I still watch the fuck out of it though]

^^ I like the international one too... my favorite house ever on that show was one that this rich ass banker and his wife looked at in Switzerland (I think) that was a combo of a really old building with stone walls with modernized looking updates... something like 2 mil. They ended up picking a place with an elevator bc they had a handicapped daughter though

Quote :
"Seeking a Green Community in Asheville

Stan and Colette Corwin live in large home in Alva, Florida that features cozy alcoves where the couple practice meditation and yoga. They've decided that they want to live greener and have begun the search for a new home in Asheville, North Carolina. Ideally, they want a home that has a space for Stan to garden and is located close to a like-minded community of people dedicated to leaving a light footprint on Mother Earth. To help them in their hunt, Stan and Colette are relying on their good friend and realtor Bill Westel from Eco-Steward Realty."

I saw this one. Has anyone else caught any NC based House Hunter's episodes?

I think I maybe saw a Curb Appeal or some other HGTV show that was set in NC once too.

most of the folks on this show are total idiots who just want what they've been told to want by television, magazines, etc.

Every person/couple on that show is a fucking broken record:

open concept
hardwood floors
3 bedrooms
stainless steel appliances
granite countertops
entertaining

Then close with a shot of the couple chopping veggies.

Don't forget the tired joke when they see the walk in closet: "oh this is great for all of my clothes, but where will we put your stuff, honey?" HUR HUR HUR

^Yeah I definitely notice a lot of that. Also everyone has a laugh at the word "man-cave" in every single episode that involves a couple finding a home.

That said looking at a variety of homes and condos in a variety of cities and countrysides is still fun.

Just saw one set somewhere in Europe where the guy bought a 2 or 3 hundred year old home that was on the town walls and had its own watch tower as a part of the fortification. It was a pretty awesome place.

New episodes of House Hunters & House Hunters International tonight at 9 & 9:30 respectively according to http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do

Ok. I was always wondering why they only showed them 3 houses. Most everyone I know looks/looked at eleventy billion houses before finding the one they want. If I had to buy a house and my realtor only showed me 3 and expected me to buy one, he or she would look like

But I love those shows though. And the renovation shows too like Holmes on Homes or Income property. Can't stand the shows that just re-decorate a room though.

i don't really like holmes on holmes at all

but i LOVE income property

have you seen the renovation realities show where people try to do their own renovations themselves?

there used to be this other show i loved i can't remember what it is called. some show about additions where they'd add HUGE insane additions to houses.

and i LOVE deserving design with vern whats his face. but i haven't seen that on in awhile.

I started watching HGTV when I was looking for a house to buy. It's amazing how a lot of the people on House Hunters ended up buying houses beyond their means, and ended up putting in only like a 5% down on it with a high interest mortgage. A lot of the shows were pre-recession, so those people are screwed now.

+1

I've only seen one episode of Bang For Your Buck (or maybe it was Design on a Dime) where they completely redid a place for less than $1000 but that was awesome. The For Rent show has shown off some fancy condos too.

I, too, enjoy HH and specifically HH International.

The worst part about it is the fact that the couple has already seen the houses they're being taken to. Once you realize that, you realize how shitty some of the acting is (even more so than before).

Renovation Realities is great. Every episode = Couples fighting, minor injury hammed up for camera, ridiculously stupid actions, project not done in time or on budget.

+ How do we know if this is a load bearing wall? Let's take it down and find out! Oh no, it was load bearing!!!
+ I thought you cut the power!!!
+ I smell gas!!!

^^^^ For sure. I still like looking at the houses. I have no shame in admitting I watch a lot of HGTV if nothing else to get some different ideas for my current home/future homes.

i also read this. i think it was wikipedia haha. i applied to be on this show a few weeks ago, but ended up buying a house and haven't heard from them yet. i'm sure they get a ton of applications. i really wanted to be on My First Place because they always get an awesome gift like a new dining set, but they were only taping in certain cities. you get $300 for house hunters.

I saw an episode of Holmes on Homes where this lady had a balcony on the 2nd floor built but it collapsed while her and her friends were on it. Holmes came in and repainted her house, fixed some of her foundation, repaved her back porch, put in a garden and built the most amazing balcony ever out of cedar. I love that show.
