Depends on who's posting on TWW from it.
If it's EMCE, greatest thing ever.
If it's merbig or lafta, worst thing ever. 8/29/2010 4:43:44 PM |

also, a plane is the only place i'd ever pay $7 for a shot of jack daniels
it was the best thing available... *sigh*
i'm currently trying to see if netflix instant watch will work over this gogo inflight wifi connection... apparently it's using cell towers/ the 800MHz spectrum with antennae on the bottom of the plane... pretty cool. i'll be impressed if it actually streams netflix with any quality.] 8/29/2010 4:59:19 PM |

So does that mean there's no internet if you go over the ocean on a international flight? 8/29/2010 5:07:13 PM |

I believe overwater flights use a satellite based communication for internet and communications with the airline HQ's.. 8/29/2010 10:22:25 PM |

the last flight i took i got a jack and ginger ale
except she gave me a gin and ginger ale
that was a surprising first gulp
which brings up the fact that i hate it when they dont give you the bottle with an airplane drink.
always makes me think they're not putting the whole thing in 8/29/2010 10:31:02 PM |

I have never been tempted to use the inflight wifi because... I figured it wasn't worth whatever they were charging for it (I wasn't convinced it would be of a speed worthwhile for me to do much). Besides, the only flights I take are the ones with inflight entertainment, so I just use that instead.
The most recent flight was on Delta (RDU to Detroit to Incheon), which didn't have wifi on that plane (the wifi symbol I was instructed to look for, by the information in the inflight magazine, was not present, so therefore the plane had no wifi anyway).
So... if speed goes up and price goes down, I would say it's great, but I doubt it could ever qualify as greatest thing ever (unless I'm in first class and it's free...)
As far as alcohol goes, I finally coughed up the dough to try a drink on that flight. Got a gin tonic and let the flight attendant (quite the dashing gentleman) make it for me. He used limes instead of lemons but it was good. I didn't want the bottle (meh, no need). All around great experience.

Every drink I've ever had on a plane was free. Either because it was an international flight, or they didn't come back to get my card to charge me. 8/29/2010 10:35:01 PM |

^^ you mean wifi? That is something I don't know about. But like I mentioned, on int'l flights I've been on, only wine/beer were free. Drinks aside from that were generally $7 as I recall. 8/29/2010 10:40:10 PM |

was free on a delta flight i took from phl to atl a week or two ago.

Then, poo on Delta for not having it on our plane.
But what can I say, I was probably lucky that my inflight entertainment system was working. There seemed to be fewer problems on the return to Korea, but when I walked off the plane, I still saw several screens which were in some state of rebooting. On the way to the US, a lot of people in my cabin area had problems and the flight attendants had to reboot those things several times.
what's better to me, perhaps, than inflight wifi is a good ol' power outlet. Our plane had those USB outlets and I don't feel like they were doing anything to power my equipment. That is, the battery was being used (it's % decreased) despite having the item in question plugged in - even while I wasn't using it. meh..

AA is SHIT!
I was lucky to have an inflight entertainment system. No comp. beer/wine or anything with alcohol. Wifi wasn't even mentioned as being available. It was a pretty bare bone flight on the 777. However, the Eastern China Airline flight with Air Japan offered comp. beer (which I gladly took advantage of, as I wasn't going to exchange any money in a layover in Japan to buy alcohol). 8/29/2010 10:58:17 PM |
