I use to not be a fan of pugs. But now I love them.
However, for the first time ever, I met a pug that had a shitty personality. I will not let this pug affect my overall opinion of pugs though. 8/31/2010 12:50:49 PM |

oh, i can read, i just don't get how that's nasty. it's not like they are snorting shit on YOU. and having a smushed in face makes them nasty, huh? so i guess humans with physical disabilities are nasty then too. And if you find snoring nasty, then wow. 8/31/2010 12:56:23 PM |
se7entythree YOSHIYOSHI 17377 Posts user info edit post |
i think that dogs with smashed faces that snort and snore, & those that drool all over the place are nasty. it's my opinion & a lot of people share it.
a LOT of pugs are overweight too. that's also nasty. and cruel.
yeah, people with massive facial deformities can be ugly too.

The same point as any other dog that you aren't getting to be a "guard dog." And, in my opinion, I don't like dealing with the bigger dogs that serve well as a guard dog. Just not my thing.
They are adorable (imo), very loving, well behaved, a lot of fun, fairly low maintenance, not "yappy"/barky at all like other smallish dogs (I *hate* that about a lot of other smaller dogs), and just provide a lot of LOLz because they are so much personality in a small body.
The amount of snorting just has to do with how smushed their face is. My wife's previous 2 pugs: 1 didn't snore at all and hardly snorted at all because his nose wasn't as smushed. The other snored and snorted pretty loudly when excited. Ours is kind of in the middle.
Sorry for the terrible pic from my old phone:

Same. Growing up I was never a big fan...but I had never really been around them. Then my wife's parents got her and her sister a pug puppy and adopted another when we were dating in HS and I fell in love with them after actually getting to be around them. They are always good for a laugh and loyal to a fault. Great little companions.8/31/2010 1:13:30 PM |

working at a vet clinic growing up, pugs were always some of my favorite dogs. Other than the couple of dogs that just had personality unbecoming of the breed, these dogs always got the extra play time with me 8/31/2010 1:35:04 PM |

I think pugs are cute. I also think it's funny when they are running around and all you hear is them snorting.
To all you pug experts, why were pugs bred? Like what was their function back in the day?
I much prefer large dogs, but I think they fall in the beagle category, small dogs that aren't retarded rats.

Originally bred to be companion dogs. All mine want to do is be wherever I am. Those little fuckers compan like nobody's business.
There's some thinking that they were also watch dogs, in that they'd bark at shit, and then the big dogs would go see what's up.

^^^ From what I know, they were actually much bigger at one point and used as guard dogs back in the day. They say that is mostly why they don't know their own size well today and will pick fights with dogs much bigger than themselves
I think they were from China originally and were imported to/became very popular in Europe and bred to be companion dogs, but I'm not 100% sure.

yes. do not get a pug if you don't want a dog that enjoys being near you 24/7 heh

Pugs are cute as puppies.
This one pug that is actually the CEO of RadioSystems and PetSafe used to board where I worked and he would get skin infections in his flaps from being so drooly. He was overweight too, at his mansion he has automatic doggie doors and food released at multiple time intervals and big doggie beds for lounging.
Of all breeds Randy chose the pug. 8/31/2010 9:07:12 PM |
