Anyone done it? Now that the summer fashion season is over, I've got a seersucker blazer that I want to tint.
Suggestions?
Warnings?
Hints? 9/3/2010 8:25:23 AM |

^^ how did it go?
^ Generally? Because I want to.
More specificially, because it gives the blazer a bit of an aged look that I think would go well with a t-shirt and jeans if I wanted to wear it out one night at the beach or to a concert etc.

i would think the problem would be at getting an even stain
ever notice the patterns in a coffee filter? i would be afraid of something similar unless you are going for a homeless look 9/3/2010 10:00:23 AM |

Yeah, I've heard stories of that, which is why I'm seeking out advice instead of diving in ;-)
From what I've gathered so far, if you leave the tea bags in, you'll get exactly that. If you steep them for a while then remove them before putting the clothes in (especially if you stir thoroughly) you'll get a more even stain.
The intent is to give the jacket a slightly aged look, so I'm not going for complete uniformity, but splotchyness isn't good either. 9/3/2010 10:12:32 AM |

the rule of thumb on endeavors like this is to always test something you dont care about first 9/3/2010 3:06:59 PM |

^^ Yep.
^^^ And yeah that's the basic premise. Buy a shitty shirt at Goodwill and try it on that first. 9/3/2010 4:10:24 PM |

When i was in like 6th grade i had to write a diary from the perspective of a confederate soldier, and i dipped it in tea and coffee and put red food coloring on the last page and didn't finish it because he died

I did this back in 2004. I needed khakis for a job, but only had white pants.
It worked well enough. Didn't have a problem with uneven staining. 9/3/2010 9:32:26 PM |
