I learned by the age of 16 or so that employers like yourself have no problem exploiting your workers by expecting them to work harder than their pay rate. This is especially the case in unskilled labor jobs where workers are a dime a dozen. Shit happens all the time, an employer expects a worker to work two different positions at the same time for the same pay as everyone else who can't work two different positions at the same time. It allows you guys to cut a position and force another worker to do more work, cutting your bottom line and saving your money at the expense of the worker.

I guess it's a difference in being naive or not.

The difference btwn you and the average worker is that we understand that to get more money, you earn it via your performance, thereby demanding a wage increase via that performance. It works. I give raises all the time to people who work beyond their rate. The bottom line is important, but it's nowhere near as important as keeping a happy workforce that earns what it deserves. People who don't live up to expectations are either let go, or they run themselves out via their poor performance or attitude.

Didn't your folks teach you something about capitalism? Maybe a smidge? Or, maybe just a little about a worth ethic? You'll not find a more "exploited" worker in many small businesses more exploited than the GM himself, I can assure you of that. That's the breaks, though. You gotta work like hell to earn your keep, son.

You know that's a lot of shit. There's far more than performance that goes into determining someone's pay. How often have you had a good employee ask for a wage, but only come up with the excuse "sorry, there's just not enough money in the budget to give you one," or how often has an employee asked for a raise only for you to negotiate a lower wage to pocket more money for yourself, even though his asking price was justified knowing how good of a worker he is? I know about the bullshit that goes on behind the scenes, the line of crap that you guys will spill just to avoid paying someone money that you know he should be making. Don't give me that "if you work hard, you'll make more" shit. You know it's false. I guess it's possible that you're one of the few managers/owners/whatever you are who may actually be fair. But many have no problem fucking over an employee if it makes their bottom line better.
