For the second time in a year and a half. The people who break into my car use slim jim and normally take change, or little things that are hard to notice, but they also got my check cards and ID. All of this stuff is easily replaceable, but the fact that it is happening bothers me.
I've found out that my neighbors are experiencing similar things and since we live in a town home community I guess we're easy pickings for this type of thing. I really want to do something to deter the thieves from coming into my car, but figured I would come here for some "creative" suggestions.
Right now i'm thinking about buying a bunch of razor blades and putting them in the glove compartment. 9/5/2010 8:44:05 PM |

Setting up claymores would work... but you'd have a helluva mess to clean up afterwards, nevermind the innocent bystanders and collateral damage involved... All I can think of is don't keep anything of value in your car. Evar.

There's not a whole lot you can do except move.
I've had my car broken into twice... and have come to the conclusion that people break in JUST to see what's inside
The cops don't give a shit about car break-ins
Pawn shops don't do the right thing, and log electronics that walk into their store/report this to the police
As shitty as it sounds, all you can do is 1) have good insurance, 2) don't leave anything in your car that is of value, 3) get a good car alarm (though this won't stop them from breaking in) 4) pray that these low level thieves learn how to pick locks so they won't have to damage your door/break your window, and 5) be thankful that they at least left your car there.] 9/5/2010 8:49:29 PM |

speaking of claymores, you could try parking your car at one of the three domination objectives, and putting a C4 plastic explosives charge in your car...when the announcer says "we're losing A/B/C!", detonate the C4 9/5/2010 8:53:06 PM |

i own the home so moving most likely won't happen. we live in a nice area of town, but then again I guess that is what is attracting the thieves. i think i'm going to set up some sort of motion detector and then light them up with my paintball gun next time they get in there. Since they're removing the change from my car and going through the side pockets, glove compartment and center console a good 3 - 5min is spent inside.
plenty of time to call the police and tell them to look for the the people wearing neon green paint all over their bodies 9/5/2010 11:39:20 PM |

Make one of these http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/infrared-nerf-autocannon-hunts-predators-little-sisters-too-vi/ attach the output of the motion sensor to a flood light above yer garage or where ever your car is parked(ideally somewhere you wouldnt be able to see it). Position the nerf gun above the flood light for the element of surprise. Coat the tip of the darts in something that will stain(more than likely theyd be wearing black clothes so this might be tough). Id recommend trying some sort of sex lube mixed with phosphorescent paint and deer piss(lube bc you dont want it to evaporate/phosphorescent to glow in the dark/deer piss cuz it smells horrid).
Another slightly more realistic idea....if you know yer neighbors well you could purchase a few security camera housings and post signs that say the area is monitored. The housings arent expensive and they dont have to actually have cameras in them. 9/6/2010 12:48:51 AM |

I actually think i'm going to put a lot of mouse traps in the glove compartment and center console to surprise the shit out of them when they rummage through it.
^because when I am at home I don't need it and the only time I need to use them involves when I am getting in the car. 9/6/2010 11:23:29 AM |

^^^ no more idiotic than leaving anything in your car. the check cards and ID being in the car isn't what promoted the stealing. They were looking for change or whatever of value they could find. More was gained by them from the change stolen than the check cards 9/6/2010 5:34:30 PM |

it's sentences like this that make me detest ass-clowns who claim that "you can't end a sentence with a preposition"

"Someone broke into my car."
That also eliminates the passive voice.
However, I agree that ending a sentence with a preposition is not a big deal. 9/6/2010 6:24:49 PM |

true....but that's not quite the exact sentiment

i haven't owned a wallet in the better part of a decade, and this is the first time it has been an issue. why own a wallet? The only difference is that if I had a wallet that would have been in the car and would have been stolen too. then i'd have to buy a new wallet as well.
as for the grammar, notice the ellipsis the topic was meant to flow into the first line. 9/6/2010 7:04:16 PM |

PEOPLE OFTEN BREAK INTO CARS JUST TO SEE WHAT'S IN THERE
yeah, it's double pwnt if they actually find something. but often, they'll still break your goddamn window just to see what's inside. 9/6/2010 8:41:18 PM |

My car was broken into a couple weeks ago at the beach. I always make sure to keep nothing of value in sight. Of course I left my wallet in the car in the center console because I assumed it'd be safer there than in my beach bag. They slim jimmed into the car and took it, as well as the gps which was in the center console. FML 9/6/2010 10:37:16 PM |
