Um, I dunno. I usually just accept that if I'm going to have soda or tea that I didn't make myself then it's going to be overly sugary, which is why I try to limit how often I have them. Do "sparkling juice drinks" have less sugar than sodas? The blood orange variety is pretty delicious.

it has a tangier/sour taste over regular dew. sour isn't the right work, but it has more of a bite which i like. it's very quenching.

There is a Cherry Coke Zero - it is one of my favorite diet beverages, but it is still a diet beverage. Pepsi One is also a good diet alternative. Best diet drink for mimicking regular taste I've found is Diet Sunkist. Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper is also a solid choice.

None of them satisfy the need for a regular soda, however

Best of the new Mountain Dew flavors was Typhoon, but none were really revolutionary. Distortion was garbage and WhiteOut was only ok. Livewire and Code Red remain my top picks that you can regularly find. Mountain Dew: Game Fuel, Citrus Cherry was the best I've ever tasted, however.

Fountain Cherry Fanta is seriously awesome. The only places I know offhand that have it around here are Zaxby's and Cloos' but I get it whenever I'm at either place. Too bad you can't get it in bottles or cans--cherry crush doesn't begin to compare.

Are they still making cranberry Sierra Mist? That was pretty damn good.

As far as quality sodas that aren't from the big manufacturers I'm partial to:

The dry ginger ale is actually dry--barely sweet at all. Damn refreshing. And the black cherry is sweet but not syrupy.

a "drink" ... thats what i remember when i first moved back to Raleigh, after having lived in Ohio for about 10 years.

first day on the job construction foreman came up to me on break, asked me if i wanted to go with him "and get a drink"

i was like "um... it's only 9:30 ... "

he looked at me weird, and said, "no, a drink, from the gut truck." pointing at the truck with snacks and stuff.

all my kinfolk from eastern NC call it "soda" or "co-cola". like, "Got some co-cola, what kind you want?"
