So I have some high resolution STL (sterolithography) files that i want import into Mastercam to perform some machining on. This is what I want to do. Here is the problem. Mastercam will not import an STL file so that you can work with it. If I can get the STL file into an IGS or STP file, then I think we would be in business. What programs are out there that can convert an STL to an IGS or STP file? I've tried MeshLab, but that does not seem to work when we try and import back into Mastercam. Any ideas? I have also tried SolidWorks, but it will not import as anything except a graphics body. Can anything be done with a graphic body? 9/20/2010 3:58:24 PM |

Looks like you just need a newer version of Mastercam. Mastercam X supports STL files.
Not sure what you mean by "so that you can work with it". There's not much to work with, other than doing toolpath optimizations. If you need to do anything to the object itself, you need to go back to the original format or you need a different application (Solidworks, ProE, Rhino, Catia etc) 9/20/2010 6:52:09 PM |
