While a 1-on-1 tutor has it's place, have you tried the Engineering Fraternity? They offer free tutoring to undergrads.

yea Theta Tau, Pi Tau Sigma, and ASME all can do tutoring/study groups of some kind if you just talk with them.

Over 2.5 years in and just now taking thermo I, she's most likely just taking it as one of those pre-selected group electives for some sort of science major. There were a solid 20% of non-mech/aero's in 301 when I went through it.
