Very few comedies make this long while still being this good.
Premiere was great imo. The flash forward to a wedding though...if Ted is a best man again, then is it Barney's wedding? Would it be too predictable if Barney married Robin? 9/23/2010 3:32:36 PM |

Enjoyed the first episode. Hope we get to meet the mother this season though, it's getting a little ridiculous. 9/23/2010 3:38:52 PM |

Yeah, they are drawing it out a lot but really we're lucky we've had five (IMO) quality seasons with this storyline. Show was close to being canceled after both the first two seasons.
I don't think the show necessarily needs to end when he meets the Mom either. Frankly, Ted is my least favorite character and his story isn't the one most people (at least that I know) watch the show for... 9/23/2010 3:43:43 PM |

apparently the wedding in the premiere is a major part of the show and for some of the characters. the obvious assumption is that it is Robin and Barney's. Apparently there were supposed to be some clues within those scenes, but i wasn't really paying attention to try and pick them out. 9/23/2010 3:49:03 PM |

There were clues that it wasn't Robin/Barney's?

This show has gotten worse each season and needs to wrap it up and end. Unfortunately, I'll keep watching until it's over. 9/23/2010 4:30:11 PM |

This was the wedding blind item from a few months ago
Quote : | "In the mood for a blind item? Good, ’cause it’s a doozie! At the end of next season, a couple on a successful show we’re obsessed with will be getting hitched.
I know, I know — it doesn’t sound shocking. TV couples get married all the time.
But trust me when I say, um, it is a mind-blower. Why? Unfortunately, I can’t really say. If I did it would be too obvious about whom we are talking. However, I can offer you a few clues…
1. It’s a wedding I was pretty sure we would never see.
2. The bride and groom are heterosexual. (Hence, bride and groom.)
3. The network in question is either ABC, CBS, or Fox.
4. And there’s an important piece of this wedding that remains a mystery — even to me. (OK, that one may not be much of a clue. But it’s true!)
Mind you, it’s very early in the planning stages, so anything could happen. The story could be scrapped. On the other hand, all indications are that the nuptials have been approved by the higher-ups at the network.

and it was just updated to say that the show was indeed HIMYM.9/23/2010 4:33:07 PM |

Ted always has his yellow umbrella but he forgot to take it to the wedding. Also Robin was wearing a sun dress because she knew what Barney liked? 9/23/2010 7:41:12 PM |

It was his future wife's umbrella that he found at the club...then he left it behind at her place when he was there on a date with the roommate.
there was for sure a hint at barney and robin getting back together, and who other than barney and marshall would make ted best man?

doubt Marshall and Lily would be a part of that, considering Marshall was in a tux and Lily was in what was seemingly a bridesmaid dress. 9/23/2010 10:00:32 PM |

I agree that the show doesn't necessarily have to end when he meets their mother. 9/23/2010 11:08:02 PM |

So he definitely meets the mother at the wedding... then I'm of the opinion that the show needs to end (or will start really sucking afterward) if it's Robin and Barney's wedding. It completely destroys Barney's character and Robin/Barney already didn't really work as a a couple. 9/24/2010 8:01:11 AM |

I've watched every season of this show and definitely agree that the past few seasons have been quality as well. it isn't that I think that every episode is quality but there are definitely a handful that just kill it every season.
With that said, i would like this to be the second to last season at most. I imagine the last episode being the one where he meets the mom and then says "well kids, then this happened, we moved here, this happened, and then you all were born" with a few cheesy flashforward clips. After all the show is how I met your mother, not what happened when your mother and i dated. 9/24/2010 8:57:18 AM |

I also wonder about the point that Family Guy made. Why is Bob Saget the voice in the narration? Clearly Ted is an adult in the show, and it's not like he's going to grow into Bob Saget as he gets older. 9/27/2010 2:19:41 AM |

I think that because regardless of the improbability that Ted's voice will change it provides distinction between narration and actual plot development. If Ted's voice was used then in moments where there is narration while Ted is doing something on screen it could cause a slight confusion for some audiences.
That is the simple, most obvious answer. 9/27/2010 8:20:28 AM |

I dunno about how I feel about tonight's episode.
Barney doing autotune was funny, and it was sweet when he realized how much his mother had done for him.
But the in-between part was too unbelievable/not funny, and kinda embarrassing.
OMG, I'm black! It's so hard to get a cab in the city!

For the first five minutes I thought that the episode had potential but then it quickly went down hill. I found the entire I'm black and Stand by Me shtick to be cheap entertainment at the high points and annoying at the lower points. The only solace to be found in this entire episode is that Barney has learned a little bit more about himself and he/we see how awesome his mother really was.
Hopefully they'll do something with this revelation barney has had to further future plot development rather than making this episode and entire waste. 9/28/2010 8:41:15 AM |

Not impressed with this one either. The poop thing got old quickly, and even my girlfriend, who watches things I can't stand, commented on its repetitive nature and predictability. Repetitive things can be entertaining, but this one just wasn't, for me.
The only part of the show that I found really entertaining was the part at the very end with Lily going back to fight that kid again. 10/5/2010 11:27:00 AM |

Yeah, it kind of reminded me of the smoking one where the horrible Lily joke started early and you just knew it would continue the entire episode and eventually just started pissing you off in the end. This wasn't on that level of unfunny but it was still kind of annoying. 10/5/2010 12:25:18 PM |

Marshall is the saving grace for this show. Without him and wanting to find out who the mother is, I would've given up on this show.
