I've got a TIVO harddrive that is crapping the bucket and am trying to see if I can salvage it without losing a couple shows that are on there. TIVO is run on top of a linux distro, so I figure if I can boot into a linux environment, I might be able to salvage it without too much trouble. anybody know of any good linux boot disks with hard drive utilities on them? hell, I'd even settle for a simple fsck if it would work...[Edited on October 1, 2010 at 6:51 PM. uggg. looks like the problem is in the drive electronics. it keeps timing out like a little bitch. you think DD will be able to copy this thing over to an identical drive? what about ddrescue?[Edited on October 2, 2010 at 12:05 AM. Reason : ]

Find an identical drive, and swap out the board on the bottom it.
