I'm looking to replace my radio in my Kia Spectra5 (preferably something that is double DIN) and would prefer something that can utilize my iPhone4 for its music.
I've had poor experience with an older Sony stereo in a previous vehicle, so would appreciate any feedback on stereos that had a GOOD interface with the iPhone and can play the music (for example our brand new VW Jetta can't use the iPhone / iPod Touch, only iPod classic)
If possible would like it to interface with the phone portion as well, but this isn't a requirement. Navigation is optional as I already have a GPS. 10/7/2010 12:59:43 PM |

check out crutchfield.com for models, compatibility, and reviews. I'm not sure about phone integration, some probably have it, but most at least have bluetooth (or its optional).
I don't know anything about how any HU plays with iPhones, but here are a few things I do know:
Stay away from cheap brands (such as valor and dual on CF) Clarion is ok, but I've never liked their HUs and the reviews on CF seem to agree JVC, Jensen, and Boss all seem about the same to me... and not worth wasting money on Alpine, IMHO, isn't what it used to be, but it still makes decent equipment Pioneer and Sony are probably your best bet for commonly available/known HUs Lastly, Kenwood Excelon HUs are very nice and probably some of the best for your money... though I don't know if Kenwood makes DD size Excelon HUs. Non-excelon models are probably on part with Pioneer and Sony

I have one of the not too expensive pioneers from about a year back. In my opinion nothing is going to be great for navigating to find music on an iPhone or iPod beyond skipping forward and backward. If I want to find a specific song/artist/etc I just find it on the phone and then let the head unit take backover. I've been happy with it, plug it in and it starts playing automatically, that's all I was really looking for. Also, the Tom Tom app now talks to me through the car speakers which is nice.
The only thing I don't like is the way it looks. If I could find a plain black OEM looking receiver with plug in iPhone support I'd replace the pioneer I have now. 10/7/2010 2:39:31 PM |
