open unless I'm on a call.
why? because I'm not a goddamn hermit.
that and I need to be as accessible as possible to my direct reports, and a closed door says "do not disturb" 10/12/2010 1:16:53 PM |

i keep mine open all the time but now i think im going to start shutting it. People keep dropping by bullshitting and chit chatting on their way to do something else. Just getting old and interrupting me in the middle of my work. 10/12/2010 1:17:27 PM |

my door is a sliding french door, though, so it doesn't provide much visual privacy, just keeps the sound out.10/12/2010 1:18:26 PM |

When I had an office, always open, unless I had to interview a source or meet with a client or vendor. Due to the nature of my work, I have to be as available to collaborate as possible, and open doors contribute to collaboration.
I miss having an office. Only VPs here get offices. For everyone else, it's cube life. Makes it very challenging to conduct phone interviews sometimes. So much background chatter. 10/12/2010 2:03:47 PM |

I wish I had an office, but I'm just a drone in the cubicle hive colony. Right now I'm just hoping to move to a cube that doesn't face a main corridor in the cubicle matrix. 10/12/2010 2:43:22 PM |

door closed, but i don't work as part of a team, and don't have many people walking near my office so there is no need for it to be opened, but its unlocked so people can walk in if they need me 10/12/2010 4:19:24 PM |

I keep my door open so the employees in my department can stop in and talk to me (i.e. open door policy). Works well too, most of the employees come and talk to me regularly. The only time I close it is for teleconferences when I've got the phone on speaker or when I'm having a confidential conversation or phone call. 10/12/2010 5:28:18 PM |

Usually open, unless:
People on my hall are being too loud when I'm trying to do something important I have an important phone call, or teleconference I have an important meeting
I have a need to maintain an open door policy so that others feel comfortable stopping by when they have an issue, or need something. A closed door around my office means "Do not disturb". 10/12/2010 5:36:42 PM |
