I'm deciding between these two (unless there is something better for the same price):

Kinetic Road Machine Fluid Bike Trainer
http://www.rei.com/product/769753

CycleOps Fluid 2 Bike Trainer
http://www.rei.com/product/667910

Price limit ~$350 including shipping.

It's an xmas gift, so I want to make sure it's not junk.

i got that Kurt Kinetics from REI on sale last week for $270.. you just missed the deal, dude.

I hear KKs are the way to roll. lifetime warranty and supposedly really solid. at cross races everyone warms up on trainers before the race and like 75% are green. but really, im sure the cycleops is fine, too. def get a fluid.

Get the Kurt. Much better build quality.
There are a couple sites online that offer unlisted deals. I got mine for around $220.
I know bikesportmichigan.com was one of the sellers with the superb deal but I think I remember them closing last year. I remember there being others and if I can think of them, I'll update here.
Use the money you save to get a trainer tire, riser, etc.

I saw the sale for the trainer, didn't know it was going to end so soon.

Put away the training wheels and buy a set of Kreitlers. Then you'll actually get some real benefit from your indoor bike workouts.
