I already tried smooth talking Gigabyte to honor my warranty which expired in January but no dice. I've had this rig since 07 and around the end of last year I started getting a few quirky issues (reboots, freezes, CMOS resets). For a while I had the 6400 OC'd decently high, but temps weren't affected with a decent HSF. Finally the PSU died and OCZ actually replaced that for me, but for whatever reason I cannot get this damn mobo to post. the CPU and RAM are currently running fine in an MSI board and I have cleared the CMOS over 15 times. I have tried the MSI's old working CPU and also some super cheap ram that only needs 1.8V as well as a legacy PCI video card. Nada. Nothing on the board is toasted and there are no blown or bulging caps (They're actually solid fwiw). I thought maybe one fell off a year ago, but after further inspection there's nowhere it could have came from and voltage seems normal across the board. But what's odd is when you short the pswitch pins there's a good 5 seconds before the CPU fan will spin up. It's on a cardboard box too.

I'm basically just grasping at straws here before I decide to spend $75.00 on a dead/dying socket and see how aerodynamic this thing is.

... have you factory defaulted everything that was previously overclocked? Checked your buses, bridges, etc? A few years ago there were several boards that had faulty northbridge units -- people were cooking them while overclocking. The processor and RAM temps were fine but the bridge couldn't take it.

You overclocked your system, and you're surprised that it burned out? 3 years sounds like a pretty good run to me. Pay the piper and call it lesson learned.

I love you Noen. I never went above the board's specs you boob. The 6400 is running fine and honestly it was only barely bumped up for about a year. The only thing out of spec was the CPU and we all know the 6400 could have been a 6600 or higher anyway.

I don't know how the mobo died, but Gigabyte wouldn't budge on the warranty.

Now I need a used Asus P5W methinks.
