My lady-friend in San Fransico said it is locally known as Man Jose for the plethora of nerdy, wealthy, undersexed computer types.
Other than that, DC. But just because I've never been more consistently angry in my life than I have been since I moved here. 10/19/2010 11:32:14 PM |

There's plenty of places I've been to that haven't been impressive/have sucked/been boring/super unsafe, however; I was going for cities with specific qualities that just make them unenjoyable.10/19/2010 11:35:37 PM |

St. Louis I think. Culture was cool, but, being a young kid, I got to see some guy shooting up in the middle of an empty parking lot. There was a lot of sketch around there. 10/19/2010 11:42:26 PM |

Jacksonville is kinda similar to Fayetteville, but probably wouldn't be on the list of being the worst. Detroit is pretty bad, but haven't visited it in a long while. 10/19/2010 11:43:40 PM |

i don't know. i've been to way too many to narrow it down. there are some shitty ass places just in NC though.
greenville
sylva
we went through this city in WV a few years ago when we took a different way to snowshoe. that HAD to have been one of the worst even though it was kind of pretty. but it was a shithole. and all the locals were unemployed and drinking all day long.
i am not a huge fan of the places i've been in FL, but i haven't been since i've been 21 and i guess i shouldn't judge any city too hard before i've had a beer in it 10/20/2010 12:25:40 AM |

Of all the cities people listed, excluding bumfuck towns, only Detroit would make my top 3. The only one I haven't yet been to is Birmingham, so no comment.
San Jose was just San Francisco's slightly worse off twin. Des Moines is just boring. San Francisco is not bad at all. DC has tons of fun places. Ditto on St. Louis. New Orleans, while being a shadow of what it once was, still isn't that bad. I lived in Richmond for a year and it ranks slightly below Raleigh on my list; there are some real nice areas and their downtown is slightly better. Albany is drab, but not terrible. Trenton does suck, it could possibly make the list. Houston is fine for a city in Texas; it's no Austin, but Texas doesn't even deserve Austin.
Detroit is miserable everywhere you go. The people look like they're minutes from offing themselves. It's a wasteland. Memphis is a shady ass shit hole. There's no real redeeming quality to the town like you think there'd be. Or at least like I thought there would be. Jacksonville & Daytona Beach win the award for places you wouldn't expect to be as shitty as they are. But they are. 10/20/2010 1:42:20 AM |
