Can you name a few current congresswomen that you support?
http://womenincongress.house.gov/member-profiles/
Here's a list thanks to the aforementioned website:
Negatives: Other than Nancy Pelosi (D), Virginia Foxx (R), Michelle Bachmann (R), Blanche Lincoln (D), and now Barbara Boxer (D), I haven't heard much about Congresswomen on Tdub. And what I've heard is negative (I've certainly had my share of complaints against Foxx representing my old home district).
Possible positives on the GOP side: Olypmia Snowe & Susan Collins seemed like possible moderates, but when they joined the GOP filibuster of DADT repeal, I became less supportive. I've heard some people like Kay Bailey Hutchison as being a moderate GOP.
Possible positives on the Dem side: I've heard some good things about Tammy Baldwin, Kristen Gillibrand, Claire McCaskill, and I don't think Kay Hagan has screwed up too much yet. I've heard that Amy Klobuchar, the senior senator to Al Franken, has been considered for the Supreme Court.
I say all this rather tentatively, not having thought about it a great deal yet. I've seen the B & C words thrown around in the Soap Box enough to know who people don't like, so I thought it'd be an interesting discussion to limit to focusing on positives about female Senators & Representatives.

The libertarian ones, because they're the only ones that don't wish to force private and personal views onto everyone. Dems want to force their private and personal views about eating junk food, saving for retirement, donating to charity, and paying for health-care. Repubs want to force their private and personal views about doing drugs, teaching science, having sex, getting married, and belief in god.
Fuck all of that.

I fail to see what biological sex has to do with anything here. (Unless you're a sexist.)10/27/2010 10:13:00 AM |

3 of 4 here in Maine are chicks
Both our senators (snowe and collins) are alright. They tend to get more right than wrong and their seniority does alot of good for the state.
Chellie Pingree is your standard braindead democrat. Shes up for re-election and i hadn't even thought about who to pick in that race until I heard some awful attack ad from her camp. Gonna vote against her for sure. 10/27/2010 10:27:29 AM |

Well, there are basically no decent senators. There's a handful of okay house reps, and one good house rep. The sex of the person makes no difference. 10/27/2010 10:36:07 AM |

How about "list the congresspersons you support"?
That seems like a better topic w/ more mileage. 10/27/2010 4:43:12 PM |

^feel free to start that topic if you want, but that isn't the question i wanted to ask. i've seen support for male politicians on tdub, but less so for female ones, specifically women in congress. i'm not implying that women are better or worse than men. mostly i just wanted to know where tdub stood here and asking the question you mentioned wouldn't have focused in on what i wanted to know.
although i could get into the whole concept of whether or not a democracy functions better or worse as it better reflects the demographics of its actual population. for my money, democracy means reflecting values/concerns/issues, not demographics so much, but its something to think about when we have more women in our society than men, and significantly less women in the legislature. congress is supposed to be the most representative branch of government after all.

democracy is at its worst when it represents the general public because the public is generally retarded. 10/27/2010 11:02:18 PM |
