There’s a pumpkin spice latte or the like at basically every coffee shop, but I am curious about other kinds of limited-time holiday/fall offerings. Yesterday I found out Bruegger’s has pumpkin cream cheese. I tried it and it’s pretty good. Their website says they also have a pumpkin bagel and a baked apple bagel.
Clif bar has Cranberry Orange Nut Bread, Iced Gingerbread and Spiced Pumpkin Pie flavors. I haven’t tried them.
What else you got? 10/27/2010 10:31:38 AM |

I really like egg nog. Except I tried the sugar cookie flavored kind last year and it was just too much.
I think they offer pumpkin and gingerbread liqueurs around now too. 10/27/2010 10:37:36 AM |

If persimmons count, I guess add pomegranates. I am not a fan of persimmons but pomegranates rock. Are there any pomegranate flavored things special to this time of year? 10/27/2010 10:41:00 AM |

Of course persimmons count, they're not in season year-round

I know, but that goes for any produce, and I wasn't really thinking about produce offerings per se when I made the thread. But the fact that they are now included is a good thing.

Because it's obvious produce isn't available year-round, and people already know that. That also goes for pumpkin beer. I was looking for things people (by which I mean me) may not already know about. But now it can just be about delicious things in general, including the obvious ones.
Apparently there is gingerbread candy corn. I want this.
and also eggnog

Do they? I wish everyone was more connected to nature -- the source of everything. With modern supermarkets, the typical plastic american often doesn't know about produce seasons.
I mean, you say, "seasonal foods", and regardless of whether or not you're talking about produce, the seasons of produce are the "seasons" you're talking about. The actual physical seasons of Earth transcend seasonal commercial food products like candy or coffee.10/27/2010 11:00:33 AM |

what the hell makes you say that? of course they know about seasons. And PS agricultural growing seasons have nearly shit all to do with nature.

Ah yes...
Wait, is that seasonal? Can you find data on the history of its availability?
I always figured that they only had so much freezer space for whatever leftover parts there were from making burgers and nuggets, etc., and that whenever the freezers filled... BOOM! The McRib is back.

youre talking about crops not grown in their natural setting in their natural climates most of the time that have been bred to respond differently to different exposures
how am i proving your point about americans not knowing about produce seasons? its NOT nature fool
americans know about seasons dude.

I am also using this thread for ideas on things to make at home. Cinnamon ice cream is now on the list. I have a long list of pumpkin ideas already gathered. I tried pumpkin ice cream last year and it was good, but I cooked the custard a little too long so it was super thick. 10/27/2010 11:37:20 AM |

its actually really easy to make at home
just literally sprinkle pure cinnamon onto vanilla
season to taste but it doesnt take a whole lotta cinnamon
i also think itd be a goood idea to try CTC in vanilla ice cream. i bet thatd be awesome

Also, a lot of places are busting out fall squash. We had a delicious butternut bisque at Magnolia grill over the weekend. Around this time last year, Maggiano's did a tasty butternut squash ravioli with toasted pecans on top. 10/27/2010 2:39:28 PM |
